Travis's Story

Life During my ramblings I recieved a lot of answers but forgot the questions. The bright lights have come on and the bar has closed. No more wandering without direction, or guide. I have been preminantly banned from the World´s End, but that was just a matter of time (some of the staff still like me). No more lazy days relaxing on the beaches of Fiji watching the children dance next to bonfires at night, or swing from the branches of a coconut tree. Chatting up lovely girls over a cup of tea is a thing of the past. No longer treating high fevers through the night, miles from true medical attention. No more wandering to the other side of the island for a swim in the "Blue lagoon". The boat has started it´s slow departure from Nanuya Lai Lai with a magnificient dolphin as an escort. Venandu riki vaka levu! No more surreal encounters with New Zealand home-stilled whiskey brewers, or hitching rides from John Lennon look alikes. Attempting to score a goal against Stephano at Kahoe stadium is just a pleasant memory. How, I miss the folks and the farm. My days spent in awe of the beauty Te Nekau have long passed. My journeys up the Matukituk Valley have been put on hold.(I will be back). A view from atop Mt. Aspiring was nothingless. Sometime before I will hear the thunder echoing for over a minute through the southern Alps. I am an echo in memory. The flight has departed with a very friendly flight hostess aboard. Thankfully time spent waltzing with the devil A.K.A, Mekong, whiskey, (or so they tell me) a distant but not to faint memory. Sleeping on the beach intentionally or not is now over. Feeling like a low-budget Keith Richards has passed. Long gone is the call of Krabeeee!!! Moments shared with a jellyfish asking and recieving questions an odd moment that I am sure will never repeat itself. Observing cats eat peanuts, being attacked by hungry monkeys, and pet geckos will only happen upon a return to south-east Asia where such oddities are everyday occurance. As well as dining on such delicacies as squirrel or bird (no specification on this menu.) Is there chiken in that? Thai street vendor: Yes, Yes shiken I don´t want chicken. Thai: Oh no shicken, no shicken!!! No more sleepless nights itching looking like a leper, and listening to Toasty whine about his gang-green toe with a hole the likeness of a bullet wound. Never will I be so unfortunate to witness another lady-boy riding the streets of Ko Samui on scooter in a mini-skirt, I hope. Nor will be able to just walk into a pharmacy and recieve anything to releave that which may ail me. No longer livin´on Thai time I am walkin that fine line called sanity. The flight has now departed and if you look to the right you will notice a plume of smoke and flame coming from a jumbo-jet airliner. Nothing to worry about folks just an assasination attempt on our prime minister, our crack-team of security is on it. No more thrilling rides in the back of a taxi speeding past bulls, goats, chickens, children, bicyclists, pedestrians, or bulls. It is a game of centimeters and you are playing whether you would like to or not. No more urchant street merchants attempting ...Expand for more
to sell me tiger balm, swiss army knives, cheap miniture violins, or hasheeeesh. Buses packed full inside and out for a most uncomfortable yet character building experience, will surprisingly be missed. The street brats of Kathmandu will have some time to wait before I stagger out of the Underground Pub to buy them potato pancakes. No longer noticed in the sea of foreign faces, for I will not purchase from overly aggressive salesman. Namasta have a look!!!!Back off Jack I just passing through. The peace in and tranquility of the Himalaya´s is deeply missed, if you cannot hide here you will not be able to anywhere. No longer the scare of losing a leg to infection or to some graduate from the Freak Street Medical University of Kathmandu. Poster´s decorating the wall with "Got leprosy?" This continues on my School Bio...... School Lessons learned and hopefully not forgotten from people unaware of their teaching. I am a student of life that comes with no degree. All aboard flight 982 destination Athens with a minor detour through the United Arab Emirites, and Bahrain with a very large Gerkin army knife in the pack. I find the folks of the middle-east to be very understanding to such souveniers. It is all Greek to me. Drinking underneath the Acropolys to watch the sun rise along with the city. The sun comes up like thunder. No more time spent sitting in Litochoro drinking with Dimitri and yelling the occasional, "Kaproskylo" at the Klicks. Drinking, drinking, drinking My Leatherman pliers will never see such a just cause as pulling ticks off the true Kaproskylo´s wandering the streets. Farewell to Zeus and the other deities, I wonder if they think about me. I will no longer drink from the spring at the base of Mt. Olympus, yet no need for it has already made me immortal. I am a missionary not set to convert anyone. The ferrie has departed and the sun has just come up take a moment. Uncomfortable days becoming the norm walking and sleeping inside my own thoughts. On the beaches of Italy without a soul to speak with for ten days I will not forget. My lonely days are no longer lonely when I am alone Attended a play of sorts to dance around in my head, magic. An old flame attempted to rekindle. At times glourious, awkward, humorous, and frustrating. I still dance in the rain, but even the rain lets you down sometimes. Night spent with fire-fliers flickering through enchanted trees and light escaping through the cracks in our fingers. Pay attention you may see an angel standing on a balcony or a lost lover weeping in the shadows. The train to no where has departed with Lucenzo as our quide. Not to worry he will get us all to our destination. As long as the destination happens to be Barcelona. Never again will I have the exhilerating feeling of finally setting foot in the Basque country for the first time. Women are blushing when I smile. Days spent tranquilo in San Sebastian passing muy rapido. Days WaIking along el Camino a Santiago a road that does not end. I am weary with wander, I am weary of a search without a final destination. I am an edge-wise stone lying on the beach and have decided to skip off.
