Trina's Story

After graduating from Belmont in 1988, I attended the University of Dayton, majoring in Industrial Engineering. Similar to high school, I became involved in many activities and organizations socially, academically and professionally. I became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Epsilon Rho chapter in November 1989, served as the President of the Black Student Union (BATU) and the Engineering Technology Honor Society during my time there. I graduated from UD in 1992 and immediately started working in Cincinnati, OH at the Procter and Gamble Company, the makers of consumer package goods such as Tide, Crest, Folgers, Pampers and Pantene. And as you probably could guess, I started working in their Marketing department (I know a big leap from Engineering). I stayed in marketing for about 4 years and decided that I wanted to try my hand at something else, to I entered the world of Human Resources, where I have been ever since. For 7 years I worked in our recruiting organization, traveling the country and internationally to recruit top talent for the company. For the past 5 years, I got a little closer to my engineering roots, by becoming the HR manager for the Engineering and then the Quality Assurance organizations. So 16 years into a hopefully 30+ year career, I have never regretted my choice to join this company. On a personal note, after moving to Cincinnati and living in an apartment across the hall from Jackie Rice for two years, (Jackie Rice and I both went to UD, pledged the same sorority and became roommates in college), I bought my first home and decided that I was commiting myself to the Cincinnati community. I became a member of New Jerusalem Baptist Church, served on community projects and boards, partic...Expand for more
ipated in the Urban League's African American Leadership Development program, and joined a gospel singing group called Girlfriends of Gospel On October 3, 1998, I married an outstanding man by the name of T. Scott Madry and became the proud SM (SM is the name the kids gave me instead of stepmother) to 4 wonderful children (2 girls and two boys). God blessed me with great inlaws and extended family members which include my husband's ex-wife and her entire family. (It's a great story, and one day I plan to write a book about it all). And the blessings continued, when on July 26, 2004, Scott and I added to our family with the birth of our twin daughters, Kamaryn and Kennedy. They are fraternal, so they are as different as night and day, but they are an amazing joy. And along with my other children, Elizabeth, Brandon, Desmond and Candace, they make my family complete. And I am grateful that my mother and father are still around to be a great Nana and Papa to the kids. Once the twins were born, having enough room for four kids part-time and two full time, became too much for our house in Cincinnati, so we bought a new one in the city of Fairfield, just north of the city. We have only live there for 4 years, but we love it so far. All in all, I have achieved much of what I wanted and more importantly, God has allowed me have most of my wants and provided all that I needed. Yes, my want list continues to exist, but I am satisfied with the abundant life a great family and a career that allows me to help other achieve their dreams. I believe and am truly blessed and I pray that yours is also. Romans 8:28 - For we know that all things work together for good for those who love the Lord and are called according to his purpose.
