Truman's Story
TJ Mallory
Major, USAF, Retired
Graduated in 1970 and everyone who knows me calls me TJ--not even my own mother called me Truman
Attended Keene State College and graduated with a history degree and it basically wasn't worth the paper it was printed on but that's my fault because it was me who decided to major in history.
Married my wife of 35 years in 1975 after dating for about a year;
Enlisted in the Air Force in 1976 and went to basic training in San Antonio, Texas;
Received a commission in 1980 after completing Officer Training School in San Antonio, Texas.
Adopted my oldest daughter, Michelle, in 1981 while stationed at Pease Air Force Base in Portsmouth, N.H.
My youngest daughter, Maria, was born in Great Falls, Montana in 1991
Completed an accounting degree in 1982 and an MBA in 1986.
Retired from the Air Force in June of 1995 with 19 years 1 month and 14 days of active duty. I took an early retirement because the Department of Defense was looking for ways to encourage people like me to get out and I was being reassigned to Turkey for 15 months on what was called a remote tour. I couldn't take my family and when I figured out I would most likely have to move about 3-times in about 2-years before I retired I decided to take the early retirement option--with no regrets!! I received retirement benefits and healthcare so it was a great decision..
My last assignment was Albuquerque, New Mexico but I was also stationed in Virginia, New Hampshire, Germany, Utah, and Montana during my career. I have done some traveling and been to France, Holland, Luxembourg, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, and England in Europe, and have been to almost all 50-states.
I retired at the rank of Major, lived in Great Falls, MT for over 25 years, and now live in Klamath Falls, Oregon.. I was stationed in Montana, by the Air Force in 1989, bought a house, and returned from New Mexico after retiring. My wife Pam really loved Great Falls and we returned because we thought it would be good for our family--it was a great decision.
I was a Certified Public Accountant, licensed in New Mexico, and am now retired!
My hobbies are gardening, woodworking, and jogging--I have completed 4 marathons (the 26.2 mile variety)
I have a sister, Kat...Expand for more
hryne, who still lives in Keene and another sister, Dawn, who lived in Connecticut. Unfortunately, Dawn died as the result of a head injury in a tragic accident at the end of March 2014.
My oldest daughter, Michelle, lives in Phoenix, Arizona and is also a CPA; she went to the University of Arizona and decided to stay in Arizona after graduation; Michelle is now married, very happy, and she and her husband, Scott, bought a house. My youngest daughter, Maria, is autistic and she loves to sing. She has sung the national anthem at various athletic events over the years and she has also sung a medley of songs at Nursing Homes for the residents. Maria loves her older sister very much and Michelle loves her little sister. My daughter Michelle has made me a grandfather and my grandchildren are Eli, Lincoln, and Sophie! There is little better than being a grandfather!
My wife, Pam, passed away from brain cancer on January 13, 2011. She was the daughter of Vern and Virginia Guyette and Vern was the project manager of the Surry Mountain Dam. Pam was initially diagnosed in 2003, was cancer free almost 7-years, and then it came back. She was a courageous woman and I am thankful I had 35-years with her because we had a wonderful marriage. I have a lot to be thankful for so I treat everday as a blessing. My CPA License is inactive because I did not renew it due to Pam being terminally ill and not working has allowed me the opportunity to take care of my youngest daughter as well as myself. I can attest to the fact that life goes on and I have met a wonderful woman who has made me very happy. Her name is Karry Rork and we enjoy gardening and many other things together. 10-years ago I lost the kindest, most gentle person God put on this planet. 4-years later, I met another who was the kindest, most gentle person God placed here!
Karry and I now live in Klamath Falls, Oregon. It's a small city, slightly bigger than Keene, but Oregon really does remind me of New England. We own a house and I have recently sold the house in Great Falls. ..
To anyone who might read this, I hope your life has been as good as mine and I hope all is well with you and your family. May God Bless you all and may your future be bright.
