Twyla's Story

I live in Flower Mound, TX, near Dallas. I've been a technical writer by profession for the past 15 years---job aids, training courses, software help files, training aids, computer systems documentation, ISO 9000 stuff, policies and procedures, that sort of thing. I'm working on a novel, but who knows when it will be ready to try to PUBLISH. ha ha. I am on Facebook, under the name Twyla Byrd. My parents live 50 miles away in west Fort Worth, near Benbrook. My sister, Marsha (Hanna) lives 25 miles away from me, in Saginaw. My brother, Chris (Hanna) lives in west Fort Worth with the aging parents (Travis and Margaret). My brother, Travis Hanna, lives on our old family farm, with his wife, Carol, in the community of Chimes, about 10 miles away from Leslie. They raise shihtzus --- and I built her web page, so she sells them to people all over the US. Visit spoiledlittleshihtzus dot com to see them, they are darlings. I have 3 children, Alex, 27, Holly, 26, Sarah, 24 (and her child Natalee, 5) by Jimmy Clenney, whom I divorced in 1989. I remarried in 1998, to James William Byrd. I have one step-daughter Alexandra Byrd, 21. All my children live near me. I lost my husband, James, after horrible 2 year battle with esophageal cancer, in spring of 2007. It was devastating. I enjoy reading, writing, crafts, sewing, classic movies, flea-marketing, and church activities. I am active in Gateway Church in Southlake Texas. They have a fabulous web site -- yes, I am still the preacher's daughter at heart, my faith stayed with me. Hopefully, that's something that the hard kno...Expand for more
cks of life won't take away from you. My mom and dad, for those of you who recall them, are holding their own, but barely. They are nearing 80, and Dad has parkinsons really bad, mom has diabetes and is nearly blind from macular degeneration. My little bro, Chris, lives with them, and he and I pretty much take care of them. He buys their groceries and keeps an eye on them, I drive over and take them to dr appointments and clean their house, etc. Chris never married, so it doesn't matter much to him where he lives. For those of you who remember me - I started attending Leslie schools at the beginning of third grade. We stayed there, while my father pastored Liberty Baptist Church, in Chimes, until I was 16 -- We moved away from Leslie to North Little Rock, the summer after my junior year was over. I had to spend my senior year in a school in the suburbs, Sylvan Hills High School. I joined one of those programs where you go to school 3 hours a day, and then work in an office the rest of the day, for the rest of your credits. My office job was working as secretary/receptionist for the Environmental Health Department inside the North Little Rock Air Force Base Hospital. On the weekends, I worked as a dispatcher for the Sylvan Hills Fire Department. That was a crazy, exciting job too. Altogether, I worked around 50 hours a week, plus school. Anyway -- suffice it to say, my life has never been boring. It's been a lot of things, but never boring. I hope the last half of it contains more tranquility and serenity than the first half. -----------------------------------
