V's Story

So, here's my story: After graduating from Franciscan High School, I attended Penn State University (83-87). At first (2 years), it was Mont Alto campus at the bottom of Pennsylvania. The second two years were at the main campus in State College, PA. By the name of the town you can see that the campus IS the town. There wasn't much outside of town except cows and bellefucians. Dosn't seem like there would be alot to be distracted by, but you would be missing the fact that it is a college the size of a city. I was always a mediocre student at best (up to that point) so I was very distracted which, of course, didn't help my GPA. After 4 years of school, I had another to go and was on double not-so-secret academic probation. At that point it was very clear to all those involved that I needed to go to PLAN B. Or at least ammend PLAN A with an additional step or two. To wit: Join the Army. National Guard. I did this, and I quickly found the boot to the rear that I needed. Perhaps it would be more accurate to say that it found me... I could perhaps take pages writing what new experiences I experienced, and fun that I had. Let me just summarize that it either taught me to apply myself, or I had more time as I was not able to sit down and all. I graduated top of my class in my MOS (TACFIRE computer repair), with a few letters of commendation and that sort of thing. After taking a few jobs (including teaching 7&8th grade science in the Bronx), I saved enough money to go back to college. I attended Central Connecticut State University, and graduate...Expand for more
d with a degree in Computer Science with a pretty good GPA (above 3.5 - I'd have to look it up at this point, been a while). [This is around 1991] I COOP-ed at Pratt and Whitney, and was hired in at the end of the COOP. A little while later the whole defense industry downsizing occured, and I thought it might be a good time to go into consulting. In retrospect, it is clear to me that a couple of years of general experience isn't enough, and that it's more difficult to find a job when the industry you are in is downsizing, but I was single and could take a risk.. After a few months of being a consultant with nobody to consult to, I took a job with Teleflex Systems INC. down in Greensboro, NC. My girfriend followed me down, and we got married in 1995. Kids started showing up at the door a little while later, until we adopted a policy of shooting storks on sight. Three got in though, so I guess we're stuck with 'em. Kids, not storks. We had to ask the storks to leave. The storks kept flying around and refused to wear diapers, although they made less of a mess and seem to be more trainable. There are times when I wonder if we made the right choice... At any rate, I moved jobs on the average of every 2.5 years. There's been no real specific reason - pretty much a different one each time. Worked closer to home, better opportunity, laid off, etc. If you leave messages/etc on my classmates account, I won't get them as I'm not GOLD member (said with right pinky to right of mouth). Try "v1_0" at hot mail - but my response time on that account is slow..
