Val's Story
I thought I would add a little update, since people seem to keep checking my profile. What an incredibly wonderful reunion we had in Huntington! It was positively amazing to see my home town again - my houses and school, beaches and haunts. 46 years between visits and I feel so fortunate to have grown up in that beautiful place with warm, caring friends. It was so good to hug everyone, whether we were friends before or not. We share such a significant period of time and as boomers, have had such a major influence on our Country. May we continue to contribute positivity and empathy in these difficult times for America.
I have returned to work. A year and a half of retirement was more than enough. I love the world of libraries and feel fortunate to work in a great one - Bangor Public Library, a center of learning, culture, and community activities. My job gives my life increased purpose and a fuller appreciation for the value of time.
I am a loud and proud Progressive and will continue to fight injustice and inequality in our Country at every turn. In addition, I'm back to creating and marketing my jewelry line, EarthStonesDesigns, riding horses, and reading as often as possible.
Life on the farm is wonderful. We're in a period of adding new boarders and their steeds. It's always fun to add new people to our group of horse lovers. It also adds immeasurably to our Friday Wine, Women, and Horses nights!
Long strange trip...Expand for more
it's been....studied art in Colorado, then got a BS in Animal and Veterinary Sciences from UMaine. Married and had 2 incredible kids and got a masters in library and information sciences kind of all at the same time. My husband, Steve, is an architect in Bangor Maine. My son, Alex, flies KC-135s for the Air Force, currently based in Kansas. He's done 6 tours of duty in the Middle East. My daughter, Logan, is in grad school in Portland, working to become a physician's assistant. I've been a school library media specialist for 23 years. 10 years ago, we bought my dream farm - 18 acres and a huge barn just outside Bangor. I have 12 horses, a large indoor arena, and enough to do to keep me happily out of trouble. Life is good! :D
A ;little bit of retirement goes a lone way. After trying it for over a year, I found that, given tons of uncommitted time, it's easy to always say tomorrow. I need time constraints to make the most of my time. Just over a year ago, I got a job at our Bangor Public Library, as a circulation assistant, just 20 hours a week. It gives me time to hand out with horses and continue my jewelry design business. Recently, I got the opportunity to fill in for a research librarian parttime, a whole new, challenging dimension, I love working with the public, assisting them with information needs and still having time to enjoy the gorgeous Spring that has finally bloomed in Maine. Life continues to be good. <3
