Valerie's Story
Well,during school I worked in restaurants and found out I was very good in a professional kitchen.
After 20 years in the culinary industry and being a sous chef/managing partner for a catering company,I got my degree in Culinary Sciences.
That's when things went bad: June of 2006,my colon ruptured and I nearly died from blood poisoning.That wasn't the worst part,if you can beleive it.I woke from emergency surgery to find out a foot of my colon had been removed and that I had to have a colostomy bag for three months [I went into surgery thinking it was simple gall stones]...then my employer fired me once they found out I needed a reversal surgery after three months.Thre...Expand for more
e months turned into a year and a half.Trust me,no amount of imagination can prepare you for how horrible it is to be an ostomate both physically and mentally.
I just had a very successful reversal surgery on Halloween of 2008 and I am perfectly fine...but it put a major hold on my culinary career.I am now working a job out of the need to pay bills,not because I actually am passionate about it...but working a job you're highly over-qualified for is better than being dead or having a bag attached to your body 24/7 any day!
Eventually I will sign up for the gold membership and see who's left signatures on my profile,but I'm pretty much drowning in medical bills right now.
