Valerie's Story
I don't usually come on classmates.com (you can find me at Facebook). I signed back up for a few months because I was planning our 35th high school reunion (class of 1977) with my sister, Diane. The reunion weekend went extremely well by all accounts. So much so, that many want to do annual mini reunions. Being an empty nester, I'm up for anything, although would like to see someone else take a turn in the planning!
All is well with me. My two kids are 26 and 24, finished college and have good jobs. I've been married 27 years to Joe. He is the CFO of Hertz Rent A Car, North and South America, and has a pretty exciting career. Joe travels alot, and now that my kids have their own lives, I probably will join him when he goes to some places I'd like to visit. We live in the suburbs of New York City.
I've dabbled in a few careers and businesses since college (CPA,accessories designer(which I marketed to over 100 upscale retailers throughout the US, inventor (see US Patent under my name), children's and hat boutiques owner, piano teacher, brief dabble into real estate, and consultant) but find the most satisfaction in keeping my family happy. For those that know me well, I'm always learning something new. This year the thing I'm learning to amuse myself are playing the acoustic guitar and practicing my French because I'd like to visit the south of France next year. I have a few penpals in France that I exchange emails with daily, which is fun because I get to learn the current culture and the language! I did this in 2003 and was able to meet up with the penpals I had then. It made the journey so much more exciting to be able to chat it up with everyone I met up with as I drove around France! I can read almost fluently, I write and speak French enough to keep a conversation going, but I still struggle with understanding everything spoken to me, unless the person speaks slowly. I'm working on that by using an iPhone and iPad app that speaks to me in French, still it's a challenge that I am determined to master! If any of you speaks French, lets chat, I could use the practice...a bientot!
