Valerie's Story
Life
After HS I married and moved all around the US... I was divorced after 7 years and remarried.. No Regrets. Just a parting of the ways. Then moved to Germany where we lived for 2 years during Desert Storm so I lived there with my son who was an infant, at the time. We moved back to the States, Texas to be exact. I had a daughter then as well and we lived in Texas for 11 years. I was successful at Real Estate Sales, and then became a Software Analyst. I performed research and development of software for the Army. My husband's job brought us to Iowa. You would never believe it but I now live in a town SMALLER than Grantsville was 20 years ago! Same small town stuff, ok small town schools! My kids are grown up now. My boy is 24 and my girl is 22. Time sure does fly by.. can it be that we are almost 50? I sure don't feel that darn old! It's been great to reconnect with some of you. If you care to keep in touch please do so. I'm usually around!
School
I have often reflected on my high school years. What a weird time in my life. I am sorry I didn't get to know more of you better. I had so much life crisis stuff going on that it really got in the way of me being me. Ironically I have some fond memories of dances, Model UN, and Craig and I sluffing lots in our Junior Year. Oh yea, and helping several of the guys with their homework every morning.. which usually consisted of putting the worksheet out and letting you all copy off it!! Dumb me.. I should have charged!!
Workplace
It's hard to have a career so to speak when you move every year or 2. Some times more. When I lived in Kansas I got into the Military Pay branch where I took care of the soldiers pay ...Expand for more
inquiries and actions. Then I didn't work when we were in Germany. Too many other things to see and do! When we got to Texas and Jesse prepared to retire I took on some temp jobs, Accounting, Office Management and such. Then I got interested in Real Estate, took many many classes, took and passed the test (that was the most fun) and became a successful agent at a For Sale By Owner company. IT was great! I designed web pages, a magazine, and did all the other stuff you associate with selling and buying houses. I love working with the people. I became the office manager and property manager. Then I got into computer software testing by some people my husband knew. I started by learning the systems first then was hired and found my niche. I LOVE the type of work I was doing. Ferreting out the little problems in the software and ensuring that the soldiers have a quality product is more than worth it. It was great. I miss it now..
I've worked as the Deputy Clerk/Utility billing Clerk for almost 10 years now. Recently I returned to school... so it took me 30 years... hey! Management Information Systems- Informatics is what I'm taking. So far so good.... and if you would allow me to brag, still carrying a 4.0 !! Old minds don't forget they just need kick started! But I'm getting tired so I am very glad to be graduating this Spring! Wahoo!
Military
I have to admit, it was a wild ride. One that I wouldn't trade for all the education in the world. I am glad that Jesse has retired and that we moved on but I sure have fond memories of all my experiences in the myriad of places we visited and lived. Thanks to everyone; you all made my life richer and more fulfilling.
