Valerie Galbraith:  

After graduating from UTEP in 1979 I left for Cibecue, Arizona. My future husband had already been teaching there my last semester of college. I moved up there in December and starting teaching a first grade class. I never thought I had the patience to teach elementary children but when given the opportunity, I found that did. Billy Joe and I got married on February 29, 1980. At the end of the year, we moved back to EP so that I could get my elementary certification. I taught at Thomas Manor for the next three years. In 1983, we applied to teach overseas with the Department of Defense Dependent Schools. We ended up in Bremerhaven, West Germany. We stayed there for the next 4 years and had an awesome experience. We traveled all over Europe and made a trip to Turkey our first Thanksgiving there. We renewed our wedding vows in Our Lady of the Sea Catholic Church on February 28, 1986. With all the terrorism in Europe we decided to go back to the States. We ended up in Austin, Texas. I taught at TA Brown, the best school in town for 13 years. Our daughter was born in 1991. In 1999, I became the curriculum specialist at TAB. In 2001, I applied and was accepted into the UT masters program.
