One of Valerie's favorite quotes is:"My Dad always said..."Friends come and go in & out of your life but your parents are ALWAYS here for you". He was so true. He passed away 6 days before my son was born. I was so heartbroken and still am. He was the most amazing man I have ever known and miss him deeply every day. I couldn't have asked for better parents and childhood.".
More about Valerie:"Life has been difficult since I was diagnosed with Lupus at 23. I have other diseases as well and disabled. I am blessed to have a wonderful husband who I have been with 22 years and also blessed with my beautiful son. Thanks all for your support!

nvolvement. My pain level at times is a 10. I also have a severely painful bladder disease called Interstitial Cystitis. I have kidney disease from Lupus that has caused Renal failure and also, from the side effects of medicine, I have a serious bone disease called Avascular Necrosis. It is caused by prednisone and circulation doesn't get to your joints and causes it to collapse. I have it in both hips and it could impact more. So far I have had a Total right hip replacement. I have spent most of the past 15 years in bed. It has been very challenging and have had a few close calls with my life. I have many severe problems and currently take 14 meds for various things. I have a great support system and take it one step at a time. I still love life but advice for all..."Never take your health for granted"!!! After High School, I went to University of Florida and I have a degree in Finance. I was working on a Masters in Education when I got sick so I never finished (just a few credits short). I currently do not work because of my health but did work at Suncoast Schools Federal Credit Union in Bradenton by MCC. I loved it there and miss it. I was married in June 1995 with my long-time boyfriend Rob Lyons (BHS c/o '88). We've been together for almost 20 years. We have one son who is 10 years old. He is the love of my life. I started dancing when I was 7 years old and continued til I was 29. I was in a professional dance company and also did some modeling. My health really declined during my pregnancy and have struggled with life threatening problems since then.".
