Valerie's Story
Life
Shortly after I graduated, I started working with the Auditor General's Office in Jax, FL. I worked there for 5 years and then transferred to the Florida Community College at Jacksonville Administrative Office. After working there for a few months I hemmoraghed and was hospitalized for 60 days. At the end of my hospital stay I had received 4 units of frozen plasma and 11 units of blood, I had also had 13 reconstructive surgeries. Needless to say, I was permanently disabled. (After learning how to walk again and dealing with other physical handicaps I felt I was well on the road to recovery!) This happened in 1990 and 1991. In July of 1994 I met a guy from Texas named Ben Weeks. We hit it off and were married on May 13, 1995. (I didn't mention that Ben was a minister, did I?) We traveled all over the USA for the first 10 months of our marriage and then we were offered a church in Lake Park, Georgia. (That is 12 or 13 miles south of Valdosta, GA.) We both instantly fell in love with the area and the church members! We settled in and went to work adjusting and setting goals, etc. In 1998 I discovered I was expecting a child and we were both estatic! But Preston was not meant for this world! home, premature (between 4 & 5 months). Of course with my history of hemmoraghing, everything was very scary and even touch and go. Our church and family members supported us very much during this time and Ben and I grew closer. Then in January of 2000 the best miracle of all happened to us!!! Abigail Valene Weeks was born at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL. Abby has been a gift from God from the moment she arrived. She looks like her daddy - but the sad thing is; she acts like me! Well - I know my bio has been kind of long - but I haven't even given God the credit he deserves. I don't want to sound overly religious, but I am just me and at 40, I still say whatever I think. You know when we are in school we can make plans to be this and have dreams of becoming that, but really no one knows exactly the road we will have to travel. Some feel I have traveled a very hard and trying road and even things I have had to endure are not even fair - I feel my load has been made lighter because I have a friend that has been dear to me since I was a small child! I'm just grateful I know him well enough to get His attention when it really matters! I wish only the best to everyone! Why not? We only have one life to live!!!!!
