Valerie's Story
I was married to my 2nd husband for 46 years. When he passed away. I have one daughter from my first marriage and he has two sons from his. We have 6 sweet grandchildren, one great grandchild and two more on the way. I live in a country atmosphere where I am lucky enough to view wildlife in my yard on a regular basis. I love the deer, squirrels, a wide variety of birds, ducks and geese but I could do without the possum and skunks.
I have had a variety of jobs including managing a fabric store and working for two different counties in the Planning and Building Departments. My last job was with Placer County where I worked for the Building Department, Assessor's office, and Facility Services. Before I retired, I worked on the California State Fair exhibit for Placer County from 1995 to 1999. (I was on loan from the Building Department). In those 5 years we won 3 Golden Bears (Best of Show awards), 5 Gold awards and numerous other awards. I love sculpting characters, painting, and sewing but I also enjoy making jewelry, playing the keyboard, composing music, and writing my own greeting cards or stories.
I helped create a display window in the State Capitol Building in Sacramento (depicting the Placer County lifestyle). It was displayed for over 5 years but has since been updated and replaced.

I retired in 1999. I have had over a dozen surgeries in my years of retirement. I hope that's all. I still love to sculpt and sew and craft whenever I feel up to it. I enjoyed tap dancing for nearly 5 years and also attended classes in country western line dancing and salsa dancing. Since both knees have been replaced, I've given up dancing and started singing with the Sweet Adelines. I've been a member of Sierra Gold Chorus since 2009 and after a number of years, I became their Assistant Director. After the Covid scare, membership dropped so low that Sierra Gold couldn’t maintain their charter and it folded. I also sang with Sacramento Valley Chorus and competed internationally in Las Vegas in 2018 singing at the MGM Grand and placing 21st in the world. I miss singing and dancing but still have plenty to keep me busy. I lost one of my 2 dogs last year just after Thanksgiving. I’m currently trying to adopt a beautiful Pit Bull who is 11 years old. My little Chiweenie and I need a man in the family but the process has been slow. We remain hopeful. I am looking forward to the holiday season and will probably spend Christmas with my best friend and her son. Meanwhile, I’m taking one day at a time and trying to stay healthy. Wishing all my friends good health and happiness during the holiday season and the coming New Year!
