Valmarie's Story
Life
I 1989
Worked at Avon Products out in Glenview, IL
for a few weeks after graduation
By that Summer and My Birthday
I quit
Soon after that
I worked at this grocery store right over on 119th St.
used to be called
Prime Fooods, Inc.
I worked there until after Christmas
That next January
DORS
paid for me to go to college
They took care of every thing, my books, tuition, fees, and that was no small feat
u see,
I was going to school to become a doctor
Well, By that next Fall,
When it was time to go back
I had, had some help, by this old man named
Silas Parnell
Mr. Parnell, help 1000s of students back then and over the years get their financial aide they did not know how to get
Mr. Parnell died a couple of years ago.
That day when,
I was in his office,
told him to show me how to fill out my financial aide papers myself, so that I could do myself the next time
For the next Ten years I got four grants that I qualified for...
For eight years, I studied to become just that a doctor, I did
Pre-Med
Then I tried nursing,
Just like 20 years ago, I always did well in school, I was on the dean's list the entire time, I was in college, while in the Pre-Med program at Chicago State University, I surpassed the silve...Expand for more
r and the gold honor roll, I was on the Platinum Honor Roll. My highest GPA in college was 3.71 GPA
I did a beautiful job, in the nursing program, over at CSU, also.
I was so determined to get out, I tried to take on what some might say was too much,
I was full-time, one time and I was carrying somewhere in-between 12-15 credit hours, and oh, I don't know what I was trying to do, but I carried Organic and InOrganic Chemistry and Intro to
biology at the same time. This had to be one the hardest things I ever did,
Well, needless to say, I Ace my Chemistry and because it was quite a bit too much I end up dropping out to out that year and I am supposed to return to CSU this fall!
I have had several jobs, my last one, a registration clerk for the a west side hospital, I was making a pretty, penny, too!
I used to register, in-patient, out-patient, and call and verify insurance, so forth, and whatever
I am now, sitting on my behind, and, collect money from every which way, I can I married a little while after high school, a childhood sweetheart, but it did not work out. We are still best friends and one good thing that came out of the 5 year marriage was a beautiful 2lb 10 1/2 oz baby boy, who is healthy and the love of my life.
