Valorie's Story
Life
I pursued a career in marketing. After earning my undergraduate business degree at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, I worked in brand management for Procter & Gamble in Cincinnati, Ohio. After moving to San Francisco and earning my MBA at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, I transitioned from consumer packaged goods into technology, and for nearly 20 years held Vice President of Marketing positions with both venture-funded startups and publicly-held corporations in Silicon Valley, including Ashlar, Bellamax, Broderbund, Caere and Claris. d on a number of corporate and nonprofit Boards of Directors. Six years ago I embarked upon what has become my current career in the public sector. First appointed to the Historical Commission and then to the Planning Commission of the City of Los Altos, California, I was elected to the Los Altos City Council in 2005. In addition to serving as Mayor Pro Tem this year, I teach business and marketing courses at a community college. I've been happily married to Rich Carpenter for 15 years and have two lovely daughters from a previous marriage in college in Southern California.
