Van's Story
Vantresse (Van) McMillan is a Special Agent with the District of Columbia Office of the Inspector General. Special Agent McMillan obtained an associate¿s degree in criminal justice from Augusta Technical College and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in organizational management from Voorhees College in 2004. He has a strong and diverse background in law enforcement and government affairs.
Special Agent McMillan served in U.S. Army from 1985 until 1992. Immediately after his discharge, he joined the St. George, South Carolina Police Department and became a certified peace officer. In 1993, he moved to Albany, Georgia were he worked for the Cordele Police Department for six years. After becoming certified, McMillan attended a host of advanced courses at the Georgia Peace Officer Academy in Forsyth, Georgia. During his tenure there, he worked under a ¿Fast Cops¿ grant that focused on crime in low to moderate income neighborhoods. heriff¿s Department in St. George, South Carolina where he served until February, 2000.
In July of 2001, SA McMillan was appointed as the first African-American police chief for the town of New Ellenton, South Carolina. During his tenure as police chief, McMillan adopted the concept of ¿community oriented policing¿ and created a host of programs that bridged a good working relationship between the citizens and the police department, including creating the first police-sponsored summer camp program. In 2002, SA McMillan attended the South Carolina Chief¿s School and the FBI Command College.
In August 2004, SA McMillan was hired by the Augusta-Richmond County Consolidated Government as the Director of the Department of Neighborhood Enhancement and the city¿s Weed and Seed program. He oversaw many prevention and intervention programs sponsored by various organizations and as the Weed and Seed Coordinator, SA McMillan served as the liaison between the City of Augusta and the U.S. Department of Justice.
