Van's Story

Time for me to rewrite this. I hope you will read it through. We all are getting close to the edge…several have already fallen asleep in death. It is important to consider what lays ahead, what we believe, why we are here. My studies, prayers, experiences have led me to this: The Bible without a doubt is the word of God. Its relevance today is greater than at any time in human history. It contains prophesies coming true before our eyes today. It takes us from paradise lost to paradise restored, and we are extremely close to that restoration. Consider 2 Timothy 3:1-4 “But know this, that in the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here. For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, haughty, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, disloyal, having no natural affection, not open to any agreement, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, without love of goodness, betrayers, headstrong, puffed up with pride, lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God…” We have all seen great changes in our lifetimes. The spiraling down of morality, loss of faith, the increase of drugs, violence and unrest in the world, the displacement of people, insatiable greed, pride and all that the scripture describes. It is noteworthy that it mentions a specific time “the last days”. The “last days” of what? The world under Satan’s control. Daniel 2:44 “In the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed. And this kingdom will not be passed on to any other people. It will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, and it alone will stand forever.” That kingdom is the same kingdom Jesus taught us to pray for: “…Let your kingdom come. Let your will be done as in heaven, also on earth.” The kingdom is a government. The issue is rulership. In the beginning it was God’s rule…then came the rebellion causing perfection and everlasting life on earth to be lost. (Genesis 2:17 the command: “for in the day you eat of it you will die…” conversely if they had never eaten of it, they would logically never have died). That is how sin and death came into the world (Rom.5:12 “…just as through one man sin entered the world and death through sin, and so death spread to all men…”). We have been in bondage to sin and death ever since. It is why Jesus was born as a perfect human and sacrificed that perfect life, to pay the ransom price (“By means of him we have the release by ransom through the blood of that one.” Eph. 1:7) to balance the scales of justice and open the door to freedom from sin and death and for the restoration of the earth to its original purpose of a paradise home for mankind. This promise of an end to the wicked and a restored earth echoes through the Bible: Psalm 37:10-11,29 “Just a little while longer, and the wicked will be no more; You will look at where they were, and they will not be there. But the meek will possess the earth, and they will find exquisite delight in the abundance of peace. The righteou...Expand for more
s will possess the earth, and they will live forever on it.” How do we know we are living in the “last days”? One place is found at Matt. 24:3-14 speaks of a composite sign including global wars, food shortages, earthquakes, pestilences (Luke 21:11) and a global preaching of the “good news of God’s kingdom” (a work that has been going on for decades in every land all over the earth and in over a 1000 languages). Referring to the restoration of the earth and paradise Rev. 21:3-4 “…The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his people. And God himself will be with them. And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” Think about that verse. Is there pain or death in heaven? No. Where then would it be fulfilled? Right here on earth! Isaiah 25:8 echoes that future: “He will actually swallow up death forever, and the Lord Jehovah will certainly wipe the tears from all faces.” Isaiah 65:17: “Here I am creating new heavens and a new earth; and the former things will not be called to mind, neither will they come up into the heart.” Couple that with the resurrection of the dead and what a wonderful hope and a beautiful future the Bible provides…. We are very close to that restored new world. What is required? “This means everlasting life, their coming to know you, the only true God, and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ.” John 17:3. How does one come to know God and his will? It is there in the Bible if one knows where to look. I would love to discuss this hope and answer questions. Feel free to get in touch with me or go to JW.org and you’ll find a wealth of information and answers. That website also offers a free Bible study program with each lesson containing very brief videos that help one understand the scripture being discussed. The lessons are short and easy to digest and really worth the time. The Bible can be a challenge to understand without someone helping to point to verses on any specific topic, so that is why this is such a great help to understanding. There are two ways to access the course, at the bottom of the opening page of the website there is a title: Try the Bible Course. It will lead you to a page where you can request a visit from a local Witness who will gladly help you with the study, answering questions, etc. If you want to try it on your own, perhaps before requesting a visit, then go to the Library tab at the top of the website and click on it, then go to Books and Brochures, click that, and then scroll down the page until you find Enjoy Life Forever (two options, chose the Interactive Bible Course one) and you will find the course and the lessons. Give it a try! If you'd like to discuss it with me, I'd be more than happy to do so. There is so much misinformation out there these days (Revelation 12:9), it is refreshing to actually find some truth for a change. Hope to hear from you! Van
