Vanessa's Story
Life
I went to Pembroke State University in Pembroke, NC after NMB and then went to Coastal Carolina for a couple of years until I met my now husband Scott Marquart while working at the Hard Rock. He and I have traveled around the US moving with his job as a chef. We have lived in New Jersey (hated it!!), Houston twice, St Louis, Phoenix, Dallas, Memphis and are now in Savannah, GA. We have been here almost two years and really like it. We live on Wilmington Island, about 15 min from downtown Savannah and about 10 min from what they call a beach here-I walked out for the first time and questioned, "WHERE'S THE BEACH??" It goes around the corner, not like our beautiful beaches that go on forever! But Tybee is a small island-only 2 miles long and a mile and half wide.
We do not have any children yet, but soon to come.
Scott is now managing a family sports bar called Beef O'Brady's and I lease apartments at a place called West Wind Landing. I like my job, but my heart lies in restaurants. I worked at Tar Baby's in NMB all through high school and even thru some college. was given the opportunity to manage a restaurant that I LOVED! It was called Yia Yia's (ya ya's) GReek inspired food which was awesome!
We love living here on the island, but look to get back to Myrtle BEach in the near future.
6/5/08 Just looking over what I wrote before and had to laugh!! We have since decided that we really don't care to have any children. I love them, but don't want any of my own. I like giving them back!!
We did manage to move back to Myrtle for a year, but hated it! It was not the same as it was ten years ago. So we moved back to Savannah and bought the Beef O'Brady's mentioned above. Yes, BOUGHT! so we are business owners and LOVE it!! Scott works the back of the house and I run the front. It is hard work, but we love it. We are living back on Wilmington Island and back in our house. We rented it out while living in Myrtle, but moved back in when we came back. Slowly remodeling it on the inside and soon to give it a new outside.
My current age is 36. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be accomplished. I was so completely wrong....
My first job was at Tar Baby's, where I got paid 3.25 to bus tables. What I remember most about it is having fun at work.
