Vanessa's Story
Life
As I stepped my toe over the 40 yard line into middle age I realized that it wasn't the horror that I'd expected. In fact, I'm having the best time of my life so far! I'm back in college and working toward a bachelor's degree in technical writing. At one class a semester it will only take me 8 more years to graduate! I work in the public schools for the library services and as a substitute, which is always an adventure. It's the perfect job for me because it allows me to have the same schedule as our son as well as gives me the flexibility to work around my college schedule. I do some commercial acting locally and am in my 10th year as part of an acting team with our church. This summer (2007) I got to play a 74 year old woman, feisty and sassy, in a 1950's era show called "Uncle Phil's Diner". I'm also a writer of children's Christian curriculam & drama as well as children's fiction. Anyone in the field of publishing? We have one son, a beagle/basset hound and a mean cat. I'd love to hear from old friends!
Dec 2007 - Life moves so fast! Here's some pictures finally. This has been a great year and I'm excited to see what next year brings. Our son is growing, literally, before ...Expand for more
our eyes and loves looking down on Mom now. He's in 5th grade and towers over most of his classmates. He's strong, smart, handsome and charming. Oh no! I'm acting in a Broadway-style musical this weekend at the historical Gillioz Theatre in downtown Springfield. It's great fun, set in 1947 and full of swing and jazz music. We're doing a children's theatre show on New Year's Eve during First Night too and next year's calander is already half full. Sigh, life is good. I've registered as a full-time student at MSU for the Spring and I'm a little nervous about it but I realized I couldn't wait 8 more years to finish. I'm afraid I'd quit again before than and I'm determined to graduate this time. Does that mean I have to get a real job after I graduate? Hmm, maybe I should rethink this! I'd love to hear from my old friends!
April 2009 - How time flies. I'm a full-time student now, and set to graduate Dec 2010. I'm still acting and hope to forever. I'll play Esther in a stage play of "Ben Hur" in April. I so love the whole process of seeing and being a part of taking the story from the book to the production. I'm looking forward to our 25th class reunion this fall. Hope to see you there!
