Vera's Story

Hello to all of you in the winter class of 68. It seems like just yesterday we were rushing through the halls in a recently remodeled school in order to make it to our next period before the tardy bell rang. So many years have gone by since we graduated from Franklin at which time we were known as the mighty Thalians.. Thanks to this site our high school memories continue to live in our hearts..I would like to share a little bit of my life..My parents bought their first home in Cypress park when I was 3 years old and they continued to live on the same street but in a different home until both of their passing in 2017. .I attended Aragon Ave elementary school, Nightingale Jr. high school, Franklin High and graduated from East Los Angeles College...I married and have 3 grown children, 3 grandsons and 1 great grand son. After 20 years I divorced and continued to live in Cypress park until 2006 when I moved to Azusa...It took a while for me to adjust to another city after having lived in Cypress park for over 50 years..When my daughter, being the youngest of my 3 children began attending school I decided it was time for me to do something more with my life . I began working part time at Aragon Ave School. After a couple of years I began working at Nightingale Junior high and in the evening I attended and then graduated from ELAC... After a few years of having graduated from ELAC I was hi...Expand for more
red with Warner Brothers in the magazine industry..During that time at Warner Bros my coworkers and I were invited on four separate occasions to attended Hue Hefner's Playboy mansion for the yearly signing of his popular magazine and the selection of the playmate of the year... The event was always in the month of May. It was a fun and interesting experience, we were able to tour the property, both inside and outside of the mansion.. tv cameras and newspaper reporters were also there. As I recall we were picked up at the Beverly Center, down the hill from the mansion and we're driven up to the Playboy mansion in shuttles.. After having worked for Warner Bros for 8 years I was laid off.. Shortly after being laid off I took the Civil Service test, I passed it and was hired for the State of California as a Civil Service worker...I worked there for 16 years . In 2015 I retired and am now enjoying retirement..I love interior decorating, I also enjoy cooking and gardening..my favorite TV channel is MeTv, I have watched their programs over and over in black and white, will continue to do so as long as they are on the air ..my favorite programs are I Love Lucy, Leave it to Beaver, Dragnet, Highway Patrol, Andy Griffith and many other programs on that channel..I have traveled to Mexico City, Gudalajara, Europe, Florida and have driven to Canada..I also enjoy taking long drives in the mountains.
