Vera's Story
Life
Class of 1978. I married a Carverite - Leonardo Braswell. God blessed us with 3 "kids": daughter (25) Anthropology senior at UNC-Greensboro, son (23) Music Industry grad from NCCU, son (18) freshman at UNC-G. One grand-daughter: 3 yrs old. We moved to NC in 2000. Remember Green Acres? Yeah, well, that's us! Everyone thinks we lost our minds, but we're enjoying being in the country. It's a long, long way from Monroe St.
Hubby of 26 years: Leonardo (Lee) graduated from Morgan State (1983). I did 2 yrs at Towson State, then transferred to the University of Balto., and after many years of night school classes and raising kids, I eventually graduated (1995).
After 27 years as a computer programmer/systems analyst, I needed a change. I got my master's in project management (MPM) and got PMP-certified. I'm currently a Technical Project Manager.

me in B'more, our home church is St. Stephen AME in Essex. Here in NC, we attend Emmanuel AME, and sometimes Hyco Zion (where my oldest son plays piano).
Prior to Carver, I attended St. Peter Claver's on Fremont Ave. and St. Edward's (which later became Father Charles A. Hall) on Poplar Grove & Lafayette Sts. I went to Harlem Park Jr. High for the 9th grade. If you know me from high school, you may be shocked to know that I was actually raised Catholic. In 1973, my mother turned to the JW's in a last-ditch, desperate attempt to save her marriage. Since I was the last child still living at home, my mother made me study with the JW's, too. It didn't save my parents' marriage, but the strict rules and regulations gave me some structure and guidance through my turbulent teen years. "ALL things work together for the good of them that love God." (Romans 8:28) Amen!
