Veronica's Story
After my BS in Criminal Justice I worked in a law firm while planning to go to law school. I loved the research, legal opinions, etc. But, I hated how the system works. I taught at a Business College for a few years and found a passion for teaching. So, I went back to school to complete the requirements for a Liberal Studies BA in order to be accepted into the Multiple Subject Credentialing Program.
I married Vic and we had our children in the 80's; one boy and one girl. I started teaching elementary school in Jurupa in the late 80's, specializing in combination classes. Why combination classes....because I volunteered...they filled my energy level.... I loved it! I continued earning add-on Certificates from UCR in GATE, Writing, and Computer Education.
After earning an MS ...Expand for more
in Educational Technology from CBU I moved to middle school where I taught computers and AVID. Then I continued and earned a Single-Subject Matter Credential in math at UCR. So now I also teach Pre-Algebra and Algebra, too. I'm still never bored!
Neither of my children are married nor have children yet. We are a close family and spend a lot of time together. My son works as a mechanic, and my daughter is finishing her MS in Education and Single-Subject Math Teaching Credential.
Teaching at a middle school reminds me how painful those days were. I would never want to go back in time to middle school or high school. At the same time, I can't believe how time has passed so quickly! I plan on living to be 100, so, I figure I have plenty of time to enjoy my family and my life.
