Vicki's Story
Vicki is from Silver Spring, Maryland. She is divorced . I attended East Silver Spring Elementary School, Takoma Park Jr. High and graduated from Mongomery Blair in 1966. I attended Bradley University in Peoria, Il from 1966 and graduated with a degree in Elementary Education in June of 1970. I returned to Silver Spring after graduation and taught for one year at Strathmore Elemenary School. Our marriage ended in Dec. 2005, the divorce was final in March 2014. My daughters are now grown and on their own, both married, and one has two children!! Love those grandchildren!!!
I was fortunate enough to be home for a long while raising my children. I did lots of volunteer work in Charlotte, NC...in both our Jewish Community and in the Charlotte community....I went through Leadership Charlotte, served on our United Way Board of Directors, Chaired the Human Service Council (advising our Board of County Commissioners), chaired the Child Community Prevention and Protection team, which review all child deaths in Mecklenburg County...I also served as Chairman of the local Mental Health Association. I was active in our Jewish community serving on the Jewish Federation Board, JCC Board and the Temple Beth El board...I did work in the non-profit field..working for the Jewish Federation twice, the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce doing business research, the Arts and Science Council. I am now no long working , but stay active within my community.
I do stay in contact with several people from both Silver Spring and some college friends. I was a "host" on AOL, back when they had them..and formed a strong bond with people from our AOL community...have met several in person and we continue to remain a close group.
Currently I have focused my energies on my grandchildren, attending events and classes at Temple Beth El, learning about Aging and S...Expand for more
age-ing through Sage-ing Internationa....have taken several classes and am currently taking a class on Wisdom Circles. I love the theater, live music, reading, creating art...collage work, self growth work...living on my own, I am much more independent and happier...I did take both my daughters to London and Paris last May to celebrate birthdays!!!
My focus is to remain vibrant and to enjoy good health as long as possible. I am a breast cancer survivor...have had a hip replacement....due to a rare skin disease I contrated in 2003...which was the cause of the hip replacement. I remain active...going the the gym and working with a personal trainer twice a week....I believe in having strong ties and connections to my community, family and friends. Aging is a process....and one I am facing with joy and fullness of life.
For those of you who remember me as athletic...I was NEVER that...I was active on the Stage Crew while at Blair...I do try and be as kind, and compassionate and independent as possible. I have liberal political views...and have been active in political campaigns. I am excellent at finding resources and doing research. Returning to a single status late in life has been challenging....but I will not let it get the best of me....I am stronger and bolder than ever...and much more independent and full of life!!!
I am looking forward to our 50th High School Reunion.!!
I would love to be in touch with as many folks as possible!! Reconnecting with old friends all over the country and world is fun and exciting...those connections are important and we all need to have meaningful connections in our lives...now and forever. I have learned life for me is a series of transitions, growth, life long learning...hope, love, giving and kindness with passion for what I do and love. Live well...make the best of each day!!
