Vicki's Story

India has my heart and always will. India has 1,384,783,707 people today, November 4,2020. You can search for worldometers.info/world-population/india-population/ where you can watch the numbers go up in real-time. I mention this fact right off so you understand what you are getting into when you visit India. The moment you set down at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi you are pummeled on every level; seeing, hearing, tasting, feeling, speaking, experiencing, or understanding anything at all! It's exhausting and exhilarating at the same time. You can feel the antiquity, 250,000 years as compared to our 244 years and 331,682,930 in population. India is a country that is beautiful beyond belief, unbelievable squalor, and everything in between that you never knew about or ever saw before. It's a real wake up call and you find yourself enjoying the experience, but also feeling grateful that you will at some point get to go back home. But while you are there, it is magnificent in all ways with all kinds of masterly learning experiences. There are awe-inspiring people, all the way down to severely demented ones living on the streets. There is every kind of person you could possibly imagine and from everywhere in the world. One day in Delhi, I got my courage up to ride a bus. Little did I know I would have to survive to live another day. That's one thing about tourist mentality in India, it could get you killed if you don't pay enough attention. Forget to look left crossing a street and you are a goner, not even a question. There are so many people you have to use all your muscles to move into the crowd and keep your place as you are moving forward. Keep aware of all the pickpockets. A man pointed out that I should get on the top of the bus. What did t...Expand for more
hey know about riding on top of a bus that I didn't? I wanted to learn, there were rails around the edge of the roof at least, how dangerous could it be? Ah, the innocence and stupidity together were a recipe for danger. I could barely climb up there. There were very few women. Hum, what do the women know that I don't know about riding on the roof? The men looked surprised to see me. We sat cross-legged as in meditating. We weren't talking, only riding. All of a sudden there was a strong hand pushing my back to the floor. I looked over at him. He smiled and pointed up at the electric utility lines which I realized were right there above us, not up at a higher level, but right there, inches away from my head. Horrified, he smiled and said, in Indian English, "I could not let you get electrocuted, then decapitated, what would your family do, family is everything." I was rapturous. I threw my arms around him and hugged him tight, which was inappropriate, but I couldn't help it, it happened naturally, He saved my life. After that, I was having so much fun smiling at all the people and them smiling back because they were also so happy for me that I was still alive, said hero had to save me three times that day! Travel is my life! Go visit my website at violetcreationsdotus. I was very sad to hear about Danny McMillan, my first love. He was a wonderful person, very intelligent and caring. He shaped my world. I was innocent and he educated me! I'll always have love in my heart for him, he was very good to me. RIP to all those who have gone far too soon. My heart goes out to all the families left behind. Our friendships in high school were awesome. I think of you more than you know. I love you all. God Bless all of you. I would love to see you, too. Let's catch up!
