Vicki's Story
Life
I'm the mother of 2 great kids. Rachel is 22, Ryon is 9. Big break in there! I was married to Rachel's dad for 10 years, and later met my husband, Victor, and we've been married for almost 14 years now. We own an architectural design company in St. Charles, New Urbanist Design, LLC, specializing in homes built like they used to be: wide mouldings, big front porches, great proportions;places that age gracefully so that people can care about them for a really long time. No vinyl boxes in the suburbs for us!
This is a relatively new business for us. I spent years in the printing industry, starting in typesetting and moving on to pasteup and graphic design. Then I made the transition to computers in 1989, working for Linotype Co. teaching others in the printing industry how to do the same.
Now I am again a stay-at-home mom, helping as much as I can with the business while being the one to raise our little boy and be available for my family. I love to garden, read, and decorate homes. A good day is when I can do a little of each!

(We live in a 90+ year old house in the city of St. Charles, within walking distance of stores, library, school, etc. We've moved around a lot (in this area), but keep coming back to old houses that need lots of work & TLC. The process is never-ending, but I love to see the transformation from neglected to cared-for.) This was true 5 years ago, but we've recently made the transition to a new rowhome in NewTown, a new urbanist development in St. Charles. Victor has designed most of what's been built, and the project should continue over the next 10-12 years. It's wonderful.
Update: we've moved to beautiful Scottsdale, Arizona, for a job change on Victor's part. He's now town architect for Loreto Bay Company, on a new urbanist project in Loreto, Mexico.
Rachel (23) comes to visit every few weeks, and Ryon (10) is adjusting to the new school and neighborhood. I'm getting back into the yoga groove, and enjoying the new scenery.
