Vickie's Story
After graduating from Smiley in 1960, I received my teaching degree in Home Economics and English from Sam Houston in 1964. I returned to Smiley to teach Home Economics 1964-65. After one year teaching Home Economics and second grade in Sheridan, I married Jerome Frnka of Garwood whom I met at Sam Houston. We taught in Sweeny for two years, then returned to graduate school at A & M. I completed my Masters at Sam Houston while Jerome received his PhD in Biochemistry at Aggieland. , Scott. Laura was born while we were in Minneapolis. We then moved to Elmira, New York. Jerome taught at Elmira College and I taught in the Odessa-Montour Falls schools in the finger lakes region. In 1986, we returned to The Woodlands, Texas. Jerome was employed by Conroe ISD, Baylor College of Medicine and Klein ISD. I taught for 19 yeas in the CyFair ISD until my retirement in 2005. Jerome died in 2013, after many complicated illnesses. I stay busy with grandchildren, my church activities and volunteering, TOPS, and the YMCA. I enjoy my friends, grandchildren, quilting, and volunteering.
