Vicky's Story
Life
Where I Live: San Francisco bay area (with frequent visits to points south, east, north, including Texas, NY, Boston, Los Angeles).
What I do for a job: software tech writer, illustrator, user researcher for various startups, most recently Confluent, Inc., ThoughtSpot, Docker, and Palantir, all in Silicon Valley and/or San Francisco Bay Area.
What I do for fun: Row with a team in Redwood City, and compete in regattas across the country, mostly in a single and double. I also cox and have dabbled in coaching rowing.
Stuff I like: Big cities; anything Spanish; French; L.A, Jazz; Movies: "The North Shore" 80's surf movie; "VisionQuest", about a high school wrestler; Dogtown and Z Boys"; "Finding Neverland"; frosted brown sugar cinnamon pop tarts w/butter; Lucky Charms; black coffee; rowing, windsurfing; Andy Griffiths w/Barney in them; Bewitcheds w/the first Darren; those little sour oranges you get in wintertime.
Stuff I miss...Expand for more
: river swims on the Comal River, Gary Stacey ending swim practice early so he could teach us flips off the high board (and so he could jump off); Don Dill and his Copenhagen snuff; hamburgers at Ol' Bossy's in New Braunsfels, Lone Star Brewery; Tommy James and the Shondells; the original off-white Levis; skateboarding barefoot; water wiggles; slip-n'-slides; incredible edibles; jumping mini bikes off that wooden ramp in the Velasco's backyard; Jim Morrison; orange twist donuts at Donut Hut on San Pedro in the morning after swimming; Volkswagen bugs; the old YMCA downtown on St. Mary's street; lots of people; that song "You Were On My Mind" by We Five; Scriveners' especially those narrow, uneven halls, cinnamon sticks, the fabric section, and the hostess in the "tea room"; Frost Brothers; and other stuff of this genre.
Do I have a "story to tell"? Yes but it is complicated, sublime, a bit radical, and involves loose plastic siding.
