Victor's Story

Congratulations to all that made our 50th Class Anniversary Reunion a success, in Oct. 3, 2009. I'm sure from the comments I've heard all really enjoyed the DVD that Ray Armendariz and his wife created. ====================================== MY LIFE'S SUMMARY Volunteered for Army 1963/1967. Made the most of what the Army offered and had a great time. I was stationed in Landstuhl Germany and was a Lab tech. at the largest Army hospital in Europe. Bought a new VW square back 1500, and traveled all the western European countries, Spain was my favorite, and not because I married a Spanish woman. Have crisscrossed it many times. Just learned in my last trip there 9/25/09 that Spain has national healthcare. Even for foreign nationals that reside there, (Just learned as of 5/8/2012, only with countries that also have natinal healthcare), according to a German couple that live just outside of Malaga. They told me they have been living there for 8 yrs. and all they had to do was register as residents with the government. And this performer from Paraguay said it also covers undocumented workers! Wow! Talked with several Espanoles, and they were very happy with their healthcare. And NO! They did not complain about high taxes. When are we going to not be afraid of change, and change? Or to discuss NOT argue politics? We could learn some other views. Do you know that some Hungarians that lived under communism, now wish to be so again. WHY? They did not see all the homelessness , they are experiencing now. I myself took a trip to downtown LA near Spring/main/1st. and could not believe my eyes under Capitalism. Women and men sleeping and drinking in the streets. How about Appalachia? Two couples I talked to from Canada, were also very satisfied with their national care, and one man said that it had been found out that the "we report/you decide"?? GOP mouthpiece TV Fox, had paid the Canadian woman who claimed it took too long for care in Canada, $30,000.USD to be in their "unbiased" report. He said "when are Americans going to be less greedy and expect everything without paying some taxes". I added SOME Americans, as, unless you're making over $250,000 it would not affect them. Some Americans I've talked to here in my area, high income types, are "afraid" that they would lose their insurance of choice and be put into a government po...Expand for more
licy. I guess FEAR/IGNORANCE Amazing how FEAR affects what we hear, and or how we filter facts to correlate with our political views. This very senior lady in Las Vegas, making maybe $8 an hour was "afraid" of higher taxes and that Obama would have a say if she lives or dies. She should at least say the Obama administration. She heard it from Palin. But why so much fear for change?. Have lived in Thousand Oaks/Newbury Park CA since 1968. Divorced, Have been retired since 1994 and have been doing great with rental properties and traveling a lot My latest travels. Took a 14 day cruise from L.A. to 7 countries and crossed the Panama Canal, ending in Florida. Great! Feb/09 to Sao Paulo Brazil for four weeks for "Carnival". Another trip, to Brazil/Argentina, a month, to look at an income property in the beach city of Santos, but decided no. Too far. Here in Sao Paulo, banks are paying "only" 8% on your CD's. A year ago it was 1.1 a month or an amazing 13.2% per year. Real Estate loans are usually shorter than ten years and high interest. Later Buenos Aires Argentina, has this... Avenida 9 de Julio that has 4 lanes one direction, a small median, 6 lanes same direction, a much wider median, then 6 more lanes going the other direction, a smaller median and 4 more lanes. Wow! Supposedly is the widest in the world. It has many other wide avenues but about half of this one. Reminded me of the avenues of Barcelona. In Sept/09 Mediterranean cruise/tour Greece, Turkey, Italy, Monte Carlo and Barcelona. On my own, Girona and Barcelona. In 2010, traveled to Sao Paulo, heading to Florianopolis, an island capital of the state of Santa Catarina in southern Brazil with a large European population with German being predominant. Will be last time in Brazil. Thanks to Aristocrats and other classes that have contacted me to share experiences. The above is to SHARE experiences as other have, and to ENCOURAGE you to enjoy the many beautiful places this planet offers us. I WISH MORE OF YOU WOULD POST "NOW/THEN", PHOTOS, BIO, STORIES, ETC. YOU COULD FIND LOST CLASSMATES THAT REMEMBER HOW YOU LOOKED. HOW DO I LET OFF STEAM? First I don't let the steam build up. I relax by watching TV, walking, going to the YMCA, and ... traveling.
