Victoria's Story
Hello friends & buddies from the past...I guess you folks from Emma Sansom wonder why my name is here. I grew up in Gadsden & went to General Forrest & just as I was about to start to school at Emma Sansom, my family moved to Montgomery where I attended Lanier High School. I still miss my buddies from Gadsden, so I thought I would reconnect with those of you who still remember me (ie: Vicky Calhoun) It's confusing because my stepfather adopted me and I had to change my name to Lewiski. (Yuk, I really didn't want to change my name) I still visit Gadsden and always consider it my home.
I fell in love with Guatemala in 1998 after visiting there with a friend. It was one of those ah-ha moments when my heart said, "somehow, someway, someday, I am going to live here." aying 3 months. I returned to the States in 2006 after Hurricane Stan devastated the area where I was living to earn some more money so I could go back to Guatemala. It's just so beautiful there and the people are amazing! I returned again and bought a little gourmet food store that caters to foreigners. I also do a lot of charity work because the indigenous people are soooo poor.
I found out I had cancer in Feb 09 and returned to Atlanta to have treatment for cancer at Emory. I'm am finished with my treatment and thankfully I have been blessed so far with great care and so far my cancer is in remission. Cancer, for me, has been a wake-up call. I have spent way too much of my life being very serious and driven by my work. I realize it is the people we love and care about that really count and, of course, friends whereever they may be...from the past and in the present.
That's the short & sweet of it. Hope everyone of you are doing well and happy. Enjoy the moments you have now & hug your friends and family.
Lots of love,
Vicky (know now as Victoria)
