Victoria's Story

It's so good to be alive in this great era! RETIREMENT! I don't know what I'm talking about actually since I never had to work and when I did it was something I loved doing (ESL Sec in an elementary school). I really lucked out that my husband has always had a job and taken really good care of our family. I ended up with eight children (5 girls and 3 boys) They in turn have given us twenty-one grandkids (12 boys and 9 girls). My husband retired from the post office after 33 yrs and still serves in the Army Reserves as an instructor of combat medics. Currently he is more active duty than not and is gone most of the time. He's also an LPN...SO I keep asking him what he wants to be when he grows up. He should be done with the Army in about a year and then we will pursue a mission for the LDS Church (Mormon). We rarely get back to La Verne since my parents are both gone. Our family is pretty much local (Salt Lake City) and we love our family get togethers. So, in a nut shell, life has been good to me which is not to say that it's been perfect. We've had our share of heartbreaks, you know the kind you have when your kids go astray or have major car accidents (that's another story for another time). After 38 yrs of marriage there's not much that we sweat anymore! Best wishes to all! Vicki Jan 2009 Well after nearly 8 months of traveling around the mid-west and eastern states with my husband, Mike, as he teaches his combat medic courses, we now find...Expand for more
ourselves mobilized for 1 yr to 1 1/2 yrs in Grand Prairie, TX. Right now we actually live in a Marriott hotel in Arlington located in-between Dallas and Ft Worth. Sometime in February the Army will move us to a fully furnished apartment for the balance of our time here. I can't even begin to tell you what it was like to try and put the most necessary items into a Chevy Trailblazer. It was a lesson in "if you had five minutes to gather the stuff that is most precious what would you take?" In the end I took my computers (afterall, that's where all my pictures are), my blender and breadmaker! O, yes, also my new set of Cutco knives. If I could have snuck in a grandkid or 21 I'd have done that too! I was just so afraid the parents would move while they were gone! If any of you are in the Dallas area give me a holler. Much love, Vicki Update! We love Texas and hope the Army will be able to make an extention happen so we can stay at least until next March, my husband's mandatory retirement age. We've spent the summer hosting many of our grandsons and now we are making ready for a possible trip home at the end of September. What a great time we've had here. Will miss the job and the many friends but hey, that's what Facebook and blogs are for. You can find me at Facebook or our blog (do a search for "the adventures of vicki and mike" on blogspot). I love to see your names on the guestbook. Leave a message the next time you sign in. Much love, Vicki
