Vilia's Story
Life
Greetings!
So here's the scoop on my post-highschool life and achievements.
After grad I attended SDSU for approximately 5 years as a Business Major. During that time I worked part time at a local electronics company doing a little bit of everything which was great in preparing me for the business world. I also kept up with my passion for dance by teaching at a local dance studio where I spent nearly every evening instructing all ages/levels in ballet, tap, jazz and Middle Eastern dance (aka Bellydance).
I took a semester off and then finished my degree at National University where I graduated in Business with an emphasis in Information Systems. I then began working for a local manufacturing firm doing simple data entry. I was quickly promoted to IT Manager and so began my career in the IT Industry. I stayed with that company for about 3-4 years and during that time got married to a nice man from India. (I'm a sucker for foreign men ;P)
My husband and I had a child, Lorenzo, who is now 7 years old and beautiful. During this time, I was offered another IT Manager position at an up-and-coming manufacturing company and decided to take it. Unfortunately, the company fizzled but it was a blessing in disguise as my prescious son was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer...Expand for more
(retinoblastoma) at 9 months of age. I stayed home for two years to take care of him as he went through chemo and radiation treatments which were successful in putting his cancer into remission...thank God!
The trials of my son's illness took its toll on my marriage and my husband and I divorced. I started working again for a fast growing manufacturing firm as the IT Manager. I also began to actively pursue my passion for performing by focussing on Middle Eastern dance. I am now on staff as an instructor at UCSD and teach additional classes at the La Jolla YMCA as well as a local dance studio. I have a small dance company and I perform professionally at many local restaurants and clubs as well as for private functions.
My son and I live walking distance from Mount Carmel which is also close to where my mother and brother are living. I have a new man in my life who is absolutely amazing...and yes...he's a foreigner...from Lebanon (love those foreign men!)
Today my life is full with caring for my 7 year old son, my full-time job as an IT Manager and my professional dance career. I love travelling and have been fortunate to see much of the US as well as India and Peru. I am looking forward to travelling to Europe and the Middle East in the near future.
Cheers!
