Vincent's Story

I'm interested in getting back in touch with classmates from EGR High School. I've had a couple of emails out of the blue over the summer, and it was a great experience getting reaquainted; I'd be happy to continue expanding the circle. As for me, I left EGR pretty much for good once I finished school at WMU (I was on the 7 year plan there!), and wound up going to grad school at DePaul in Chicago part-time while working at Continental Bank and then on the floor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. In 1990, after one of the coldest winters on record in Chicago, the boss asked for volunteers to go to an overseas office of the commodities futures firm I was working at... without really thinking it over I raised my hand, and some months later found myself in Hong Kong. That transfer started a new chapter in my life; I have lived and worked outside of the US for most of the past 20 years, with most of that being in Asia Pacific. I have been fortunate enough to live and work in Hong Kong (where I am currently), Japan, Singapore, and London. I did try to come back to the US after my contract ra...Expand for more
n out in 2001, but the job market just wasn't there at the time and I ended up back in the Far East. I've been married a couple of times, and am engaged again (third time is the charm!). I've got two boys, aged 12 and 13, from my second marriage, and another son on the way with my current partner. My younger son is autistic, with all of the special challenges that condition presents. My older boy is in 8th grade, and despite being as socially awkward as his dad is doing just fine. My parents continue to live in EGR, as does my brother Dan, and my brother Peter is in San Francisco, while sister Sue is in Denver and my eldest brother Steve is in Arizona. It would be great to catch up with any and all from the old school days... I realize I've been out of touch and out of mind for most of the past 20 years, but such is often the way it is when people move overseas for an extended period. I may be "home" in Grand Rapids (where I still own a couple houses) in October to visit the family. If anyone else is around then it would be great to catch a coffee and some conversation. Best, Vince
