Vincent's Story

Well a most of you know, time can surely fly by. I know for me it has. It doesn't seem that long ago that we graduated high school. I got out by the skin of my teeth. It was a good thing since I had already enlisted in the Corps. I left for boot camp on Aug 29th 1983. People have asked me what it was like and my answer is, Its kinda like getting in a car wreck and walking away with out a scratch! You look back at it and think "man that was really cool.....don't want to do it again, but it sure was cool." After Boot Camp, I went on to communication electronics school in twentynine palms CA in Jan 84, during which I got married and had my first child, Ashli. Then to El Toro CA for my first duty in Mar 85 and came back in Apr of 89 where my wife Tracy and I were married in Vegas in Jul 89 (wow 20 yrs), and again in Sep 94 on my 3rd tour where we were blessed with my youngest daughter, Tayelor in Mar of 96. I had the great experience of touring the island of Japan in April of 88 shortly after my baby boy, Vince II was born to my starter wife. I fell in love with the island and the culture and went back two more times, willingly in 92 and again in 98. Heck I'd go b...Expand for more
ack today if given the chance if not just for the food! I've been stationed all over southern CA and AZ and temprarily assigned to many of the Marine Corps bases around the country on both coasts, Tx and La. I finished my career serving my last 5 years in Wichita KS training reserve Marines, retiring as a Gunnery Sergeant in Jun 2004. I met some really terrific people, worked under some great leaders and and a few not so much. As it worked out, I didn't serve in the "sand box" for either of the Gulf Wars, just lucky I guess. Since retiring, I've sold cars (don't know how anyone can do that as a career with a clear conscience!) for two months, sold and serviced radio communications equipment for 7 months and in Mar 2005 hired on with BNSF railway as a freight train conductor working on my second retirement. I'd do it all again minus the divorce 'cause it sucks, but I guess with out it my wife and I might not have found each other. Well thats where I've been, like I said, it goes by so fast. The memories are still there, looking back is fun but looking forward there will be more good times with family (grand kids someday) and new and old friends! Take care all!
