Virgil's Story

Life Hi. After being discharged from the navy, I called a scottish girl-friend who came to the states where we were married. We lived two years in Georgetown and then emmigrated to the United Kingdom where I've lived to this day. My marriage to Ruth lasted ten years and after we were divorced I decided to stay in the UK to maintain contact with my children. I attended the College of Commerce in 1974, Telfor College in Edinburgh 1975-78 and Lauder College in Dunfermline in 1979. I currently have a business in Dundee which installs, maintains and repairs commercial and industrial heating plant. We are plumbing, electrical and heating contractors. The business is twenty-six years old last May and is now one of the better known companies on the East Coast of Scotland. I live in a log cabin up in the "Sidlaws" (the hills we have before we reach the Grampian Mountains. I live alone with my two Jack Russels and THE CAT. I hunt quite a lot and my grocery bill is next to nothing. I enjoy cooking very much and have fixed Roe Deer about every way you can, I think. I also enjoy driving to new sites and I still find lots to see. Things we only read about in school. Hadrian's Wall, Stonehenge, etc. I live six miles from Glamis Castle and eighteen miles from the witches trees (which are still there???)in Birnham Wood at Dunkeld. The people who remember McBeth at school know what I mean. I have lots of friends who some...Expand for more
times descend on my freezer and we have a fairly animated get together with a free feed thrown in. The usual can of beer or spot of JD usually makes for spirited conversation. I drive a sports car and motorcycle during my forays around the country and have often been accused of being the oldest swinger in town. (compliment??) I, until recently, have enjoyed the sport of racing ocean-going yachts in the North Sea from Scotland. My last boat, Festina Lente, (for you Latin speakers) came to grief in Tayport Harbour when a gale burst her fenders against the stone wall and then her side. She was twelve and a half tons and sank at her mooring and I just lost heart in her. Last month she passed to a fellow in Falkirk who is to restore her and I hope to sail on her again as crew. All in all, I have had a very active life in Scotland and have done most everything I ever wanted to do. I wanted to retire and return to the U.S. last year but alas Osama Binladen has upset my pension plans somewhat and that date has been postponed to another, as yet unknown time. Besides, my daughter who is in Aberdeen University and is the last one to need me in this way, has me committed for another two years. HELLO TO ALL OF YOU WHO KNEW ME!! UPDATE ON 31 MARCH 2009. RETIRED!!!! Coming home for an extended visit and to work on my house at Lake Hideaway. Hope to see some friends who may just pop by with a paint brush in their pocket.
