Virginia's Story
Workplace
During High School I worked at the Lensic Theatre in Santa Fe for several years. I started working at the Department of Military Affairs (New Mexico National Guard) in 1987 and have been working here since. I started as the switchboard operation and worked my way up to Lead Accounting Technician in the Finance and Accounting Office. I transferred to the Military Personnel Division as an Administrative Assistant and managed the Military Funeral Honors Program. After receiving my commission in the New Mexico Air National Guard I was asked to work as the Executive Officer for the Adjutant General for the New Mexico National Guard. That was a one year term. Military
I joined the New Mexico Air National Guard to help pay for my college education in 1986. I attended Basic Training in San Antonio, TX at Lackland AFB and Technical Training at Keesler, AFB in Biloxi, MS. I started off in a career with Computers and quickly got bored. I then cross trained to Munitions Maintenance, assembling and testing bombs and missiles. I recently applied and received my commission and am now a commissioned officer with the Air National Guard. I currently work as a Management Systems Officer in the Logistics Readiness Squadron at Kirtland, AFB in Albuquerque, NM (only once a month with the National Guard) and I am also the Officer-in-Charge of the Air National Guard Honor Guard on base. I plan to stay in the military until I retire.
