Virginia's Story
Life
I started to work immediately after graduating from Travis. I married a guy just out of the air force who remained in Austin after his discharge. We made many trips back to his home in Alabama and Tennessee until our divorce in '82. We remained very close friends until his death in 2005. I lived in Austin until 1972 when we bought a home in Leander, in hopes of raising teenagers in a smaller community, I still live in Leander. I continued to commute to work in Austin, until my retirement. I have three grown children, 49,48 and 42. Five grandchildren 29,28,17,14 and 10 months. ow to communicate to each age group, who likes what, what is cool and what is not but mostly I am just me.
After working for 37 years at Tracor (BAE) where I worked as a systems analyst, I retired in 2002. Where my time goes I am still trying to figure out. I had planned on doing all those things that I couldn't do while working, but do get in reading, crafts and some gardening. I bowled for several years and actually had a decent average- no guys it didn't look like a golf score. I enjoyed football tremendously -but lately I haven't followed the games to much - not to much fun by yourself. When I pass a high school stadium and hear the bands I get the old goose bumps of remembering; Mr. Williams, orchestra, the rebelettes and the awesome cheerleaders.
I love to host parties for family reunions or gatherings and assist an elderly group in activities.
