Lowell Ricks's Story
To all my long, lost classmates and "once-upon-a-time" friends....
Here I am, back where it all started. Yes, I am back in Zion!!! I came back here in 2004 to take care of dad. Now I am in the midst of my second winter since dad passed away and, trust me, I am longing for that central Texas weather right about now!!
My journey has taken me to the San Francisco bay area, the Los Angeles area, west Texas, east Texas, central Texas, and, now the frigid midwest! It has been quite a ride!
Was married (Betty Jo, class of '65)...have two sons and they, in turn, each have two daughters, all living in Texas.
For those of you who do know me, I had that little fiasco at Northern Illinois University (yes, yours truly actually flunked out)! After all, where do you think they got the idea for the movie "Animal House?????" I never made it to "Double Secret Probation!!" But I did perservere and received both my engineering degree a...Expand for more
nd graduate degree from Texas Tech.
I have changed careers, from engineering to writing. The pay is better and they let me experiment with their secret documents!!!!
So, in a nutshell, that is how I spent my last (almost) 50 summers (and springs and falls and winters).
I would love to hear from anyone out there in cyberspace who remembers me - and even those who don't remember me!!
Rick
PS The following are from the "Story Wizard"
1. My current age is 65. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be DEAD. I was so completely nearly right!!.
2. My first job was at McD's, where I got paid 75 cents/hr to be a slave. What I remember most about it is that Jim Mapes and I got fired (on the same day) for going next door to the grocery store, buying fish filets, and then making fish sandwiches!! We were simply waaaaaaay ahead of our time! So....whenever you have a McD's "fish-burger," remember, that was our idea!.
