Vivianne's Story
I can't believe it's been 41 years since we graduated! Somehow i never heard or saw any information regarding class reunions and since I am not savvy on social media this is a new experience for me! I read Deanna's story and it makes me realize how time has passed. I got my RN degree at the UofA and loined the Navy after spending 5 months back packing in Europe. Actually met my then future husband in a beer brewery in Copenhagen Denmark. When you traveled for $5/day the free beer and crackers was a way to live! Spent 3 years in the Navy in Philadelphia then out for 5 months before joining the Air Force. It was another great 18 years before I retired as a Lt Colonel. My husband Craig has been wonderful these past 34 years as we wandered around the globe living in England where our son Colin was born, in California, Germany, Guam, Idaho, Virginia and now in New Mexico. We travel when ever we can have had great experiences visiting all over Europe, some in Africa, Thailand and really loved living in Micronesia. I especially love any warm, clear waters where i can scuba dive to my hearts content! In 1987 i became a nurse practitioner and enjoy working in the field of Women's Health. pop up trailer while building a yurt then lived in that while building our Earthship. For 2 1/2 years we had no running water or toilet nor heat and boy when it hit -27 degrees that 1st winter it was miserable. Scoured the countryside for tires, 10,000 cans, beer and wine bottles but now it's well worth it. The house is solar heated, we harvest our water entirely from rain catchement, have a banana tree in the house and are still "playing" with our adobe as we plaster walls in the courtyard. Definately an ecletic house but our electric bill is maybe $18/month and the 250 gallon propane tank we filled 4 years ago has only gone down 15%!
Our son is now 29 and has the same travel bug as us. He's a filmer for skateboarding and travels the world filming including done some for Nike, Ride channel Tony Hawk and is in South Africa this week. Craig is a photographer and now into videography and working in the film industry in New Mexico.
Though i left long ago, Benson and the wonderful life growing up there with mom and dad (unfortunately both now gone) and Alain has remained very firm in my memory and helped shape where my life went. The influence of our teachers such as Mr Vandenberg, Doc, Miss Hickling and so many others were wonderful. Hopefully will see lots of you at the class reunion in a few weeks!
