Michael's Story
Life
I have been living in Northern California since 1971, 8 years in Weed, California in Siskiyou County at the base of beautiful Mt. Shasta and currently in Humboldt County in the town of Arcata, California. Arcata is a beautiful community with the Redwoods on the east and the Pacific Ocean on the west. Small town life really appeals to me and my family. I am married with two daughters ages 27 and 14 years old. My wife and I are also raising my oldest daughters 5 year old son. At 61 years old it is both a challange and a joy to have him in our home. My outlook on life has changed dramatically since surviving a heart attack in 2004.
I have been working as a California Registered Professional Forester (RPF) since receiving my B.S. in Forestry from Humboldt State University in 1975 and passing my RPF exam in 1978. I get great comfort from taking my daily walks on the forestland that has been owned by my employers family since the mid-1930's. I get great joy from my profession in watching th...Expand for more

My brother Jon and Sister Debra who are both graduates from Hollywood High School and live in Southern California. My brother is an Optometrist in Westwood, near UCLA, and my sister is a Water Aerobics Instructor in Newbury Park, California
Military
I entered the Navy in September of 1966. From Boot Camp I joined the crew of the USS Sterett as a Plankowner. A Plankowner is a crew member who is part of the commissioning crew. The Sterett was transferred to Japan in 1968 for Vietnam service. I spent 71/2 months sailing between Japan, Vietnam, and the Phillippines. While deployed off the coast of Vietnam, I received orders for shore duty in Vietnam and spent my last year of service on a Navy supply base in the city of ChuLai about 35 miles south of DaNang. I was offered an early discharge from the Navy, accepted it, and was discharged in March of 1970.
