Wade's Story
Hi Strangers - did you miss me?
After high school I floated from job to job for a few years as partying was the priority and going to work was only secondary. Funny how priorities change as you get older.
In my early twenties my brother Mike convinced me to follow him to Columbus, Ohio with the promise that I would have a job working for an aerospace company when I got there, fortunately that didn't pan out and I returned to Renton. Within a few months of returning home in 1986 I met my future wife Colleen. We dated for 4 years, lived together 4 years, and then decided it would be best to get married because we had ended up with too many things in both of our names. This year we will celebrate our 15th anniversary.
I call Algona home and have for about 20 years now; so I haven't moved real far from the Renton area. No kids at our house, just Colleen, me and the cat, along with lots of nieces and nephews that come for great visits.
I have been driving dump truck for almost 15 years, it is a lot less strain on my back than the brick work, oven work, and welding shipping containers that I did for the years prior.
We bought our first house in Algona about 15 years ago, and 3 years ago we bought the house next door to it and had a 30'x48' shop/garage built; most of the time it's our toy house, sometimes it's my doghouse, and then on occasion it becomes the party house, but the definition of partying has changed greatly in the last 30 years, now partying is limited to Bud Light in a can, however some weekends it can exceed 30 cans, but that is it for my "drug of choice".
The word LANDLORD has been added to our resumes, as we decided to keep the old house, rent it out and hopefully someday use it as investment to retire with. To be honest I wanted to retire at the age of 50, the wife says "that ain't going to happen". There g...Expand for more
oes those damn PRIORITIES again and there are the issues of always wanting more or different toys.
We have many Big Boys Toys as Colleen and I are both major motorheads, so at our house the louder the engine the more fun you're having. For fun, we normally snowmobile all winter, and jeep all summer, or at least try to when I'm not working 24/7. Snowmobiling has gotten less and less in the last few years. We have learned when a person of our age crashes, you stay sore for more than a couple of days; and when you get wet and cold, it takes a lot longer to take the chill off even with a 30 pack of Bud Light for rapid relief. Brrrrrrr.
We have been rebuilding a 1987 Suzuki Samurai a little at a time to become an off-road vehicle instead of my commuter car. I have had it since 1992 and it is one fun little buggy.
Last year we bought a 1965 Mustang and started attending car shows, but found that isn't really keeping our interest like we thought it would so we are in the process of trying to sell it. Let me know if you or someone you know of might be interested.
We also enjoy gardening and having a nice landscaped yard. With gardening comes lawn mowers (and LAWN MOWERS HAVE ENGINES yeeee haaaa) and I have entered the Algona Days Lawn Mower Races each of the last 3 years at which I have won a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophy. What a blast!!!! You are welcome to come join me this year -always on a Sunday toward the end of July in beautiful downtown Algona.
I am really enjoying reading all of your stories and seeing the photos you are posting here. It appears that you are all having a great life, doing wonderful and have beautiful families. However, those of you that don't have pictures posted need to attach some, I know your names, but have no faces in the old brain to go with them. Hmmm imagine that. Thank you for sharing.
