Wade's Story

1977 to 1983 Colleges for Associate Science, BA Physics, Comp. Sci minor. 1982-1983 Battled histeocytic lymphoma a mediastinal mass. Radiation and chemotherapy cleared it up. 1983 - 1985 I packed my things and worked for McDonnell-Douglas Aerospace in Tulsa,OK then Titusville Florida. Quality assurance in the mfg. of defense parts, shall we say. Company bankrupt. 1985 to 1987 still single in 20's and I went to work for Grumman Tech. Services at Kennedy Space Center. Worked there in launch control center until shuttle Challenger disaster. Stayed until the Reagan investigation was over and lost our jobs. Fred Haise the astronaut for Apollo 13 was my boss. 1986 I met a lovely girl at her birthday party. She is from Honduras. Here quote: "I only wanted to America to learn how to speak English then go home and manage my uncle's supermarket." Ercilia and I were married in 1987. Amy, now 21, came along in 1988. 1987 - 1989 Construction Accounts Payable and IT manager for a small land development company in Melbourne Beach. Black Monday came to Wall Street and we stopped selling condos, the company went bankrupt and I stayed until the very end. 1989 to 2000 Moved back to Hot Springs to raise my family and find steady work. I did not find steady work. Mid-South Engineering, HEMCO/CSMI/USNR, then Arksys in Little Rock, SF Services farm cooperative hq, then Arkansas State Bank Dept., then IT Mgr. at Alliance Rubber in Hot Springs then back to Arksys, now Euronet Worldwide. That contract finished I applied for two companies and got two offers one from Arthur Andersen, the other from Enron :-< I figured it would be prettier in Sarasota Florida than Houston so I packed the family of now two daughters and moved back to Florida. Beautiful beaches, beautiful house, great career in Lotus Notes development only to end with my employer getting in trouble with none other than Enron. The IT backbone for the US Arthur Andersen offices and we one by one packed our cubes and shutter ed the windows and went our separate ways. 2002 to 2004 Living Naturally in Venice, FL as a phone support guy for health food store product scanners. This company went bankrupt and I was laid off with others. 2004 to present I have been working for Sarasota Baptist Church as a maintenance worker and security guy. My life was so stressed out by 2004 that the heart murmer that I had always been told about came to bite me. I have a heart valve that is a birth defect (which explains now wh...Expand for more
y I couldn't run that far in high school only a couple miles) and it causes water to build up which would lead to congestive heart failure. Where is God in all this? Right beside me where He has always been guiding my very footsteps. Because I walked into the Emergency Room I had a $50,000 heart pacer installed for a $50 co-pay! When you work for the Southern Baptist Church you get BCBS full coverage! In 1995? I was in a water skiing accident on Lake DeGray, it was my parents 50th anniversary celebration and family reunion. In ER that day in Arkadelphia was the physician for the Dallas Cowboys. He took my dislocated shoulder and fixed me right up. I can't think of a more painful few hours than that. But 10 years later in 2006 I woke up with my other shoulder dislocated and a massive headache. I thought I had fallen between my bed and file cabinet. Physical therapy fixed me up to almost like new. It happened again. This time I'm kind of freaking out about this but doing my own physical therapy. The 3rd time it happened I was at the supper table, my wife handed me a bowl of soup to eat. I took two spoonfuls and like the very next moment I am in an ambulance staring up at EMTs. I had an epileptic seizure. Brain activity was too much so now I take a pill to keep that under control. I had a peace about me when I saw those EMTs that God gave me and I knew I would work my way through this problem. Last week my boss just announced to me that staff hours will be cut in half starting Jan. 1 2010 so I am back in the job search mode. The reason why I am writing all this down is because I have never done this before and I want it to be a testimony to anyone reading it that life has been tough to us all after high school. You are not alone in your struggles. Everyone has problems some even worse than mine. Shoot talk about being discouraged? How would you like to be just the janitor of your church and still have employment issues! All the college all the experience and here I am broke. Ercilia and I just filed for bankruptcy. That's pretty bad when a church has to basically fire the janitor just to keep ministry funded! I'm angry, I'm hurt and disappointed but I am so ready to move on and I am ready to keep on keeping on until I hear those words from my savior Jesus Christ: 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!' Matthew 25:21.
