After graduating from S.H.S, I worked for Winn-Dixie as a manager in the meat dept.I was drafted into the Army in "65",boot camp in Ft Gordon,Ga, AIT at Ft Jackson SC. Went to O.C.S in Ft Benning Ga.commision a 2nd Lt Inf in Oct 66. Served as a TAC Officer for the OCS program for 14 months promoted to 1st Lt Oct 67. Served a tour in Viet Nam from Jan 68-Jan 69. Made Captain while in Viet Nam. And was decorated for my service there.I served with the 4th/39th Inf 9th Inf Div as an XO,CO, in A Co and as the Bn S-1. Returned to the states and was assigned to Ft Benning at the Infantry School where I was an instructor. Was selected to go to the Infantry Officers Advanced Course and upon graduation my duty assignment was Ft Lewis,WA. I served as commandant of the drill sergeants school and later as the commandant of the NCO school. After this I served as ass't Bde S-3. My last duty assignment was as HHC Commander for the 4/39th and 2/1st Inf 9th Inf Div. I was RIF'd in 1973 as the war in Viet Nam was almost over,and the Army had too many officers on hand,I was working on my degree and hadn't received enough credits to keep me on active duty.
