Walter's Story
Life
After high school, I went to Rider College for a year. It really wasn't for me. Spring of 1984, I went to work at B'Altman's & Co until Dec. 1989 when they went out business. While there, I did various warehousing jobs ex. picking/packing, shipping and putaways with a fork-lift. In January 1989, one of the managers from B'altman's called and asked me to come to work at Shoetown. I went there along with 10 people from B'Altman's and did various warehousing jobs mostly fork-lift driving of putaways. In Dec. 1995, when Shoetown was going out of business, again one of my former managers from Shoetown called me and asked me to come to work at Kenneth Cole. In Dec. 1995, I went there again with 10 or so people from Shoetown/B'Altman's and mostly did receiving until April 2004. In April 2004, Kenneth Cole outsourced its operations to Dotcom Distribution in Edison where I was let go this past Sept. 2010 due to cut backs. They got rid of the night-shift. nd the VP of Kenneth Cole. It is true what they say " It's who you know".
In the Summer of 1990 until May 1994, I worked at Shop-Rite of Lyndhurst part time. In 1991, while working there, I met my future wife who was also working there and is still working there. We were married in 1997. My wife got pregnant in early 2003 but after 39-40 weeks we found out our baby (a girl) died in the early part of September between a Thursday and Monday. About 2 years later, because of my wife's age and other medical issues, we decided to adopt a boy (Joshua) from Guetemala who was born February 20, 2006 . We decided on Guetemala because of a friend of a co-worker I had known from Kenneth Cole. In December 2006, after 12-13 month of paper work, finger printing, more paper work and some money, my Mom, sister, my wife and I went to Guetemala to get Joshua. While we were waiting to go there, we did receive by email, updates on Joshau ex. pictures, doctor visits and weight/height. My son became a citizen on June 19, 2009.
