Walter's Story
Life
I have been married for nearly 37 years, love living here in North Carolina, am highly active with my church, volunteer with several local organizations, am an officer with my veteran's group, work for the North Carolina Department of Transportation, and swim and bicycle to maintain fitness.
School
I graduated from Taipei American School in 1965, was only a moderate student, was involved in several after school groups, was active with the local church youth, and a member of the Explorer Post in Taipei. My brother Fred was a year behind me at TAS. Our dad was an army colonel assigned to MAAG there.
College
Graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a BBA in Management with a minor in Accounting. I attended mostly night...Expand for more
school for ten years to finish.
Workplace
Have been employed by the North Carolina Department of Transportation for the past eighteen years as a Management Engineer. Do enjoy working in the public arena after twenty years in private industry.
Military
Served three years on active duty as an airborne infantry sergeant in Vietnam with the 173d Airborne Brigade and in North Carolina with the 82d Airborne Division.
While attending college I joined the Texas National Guard and was granted a direct commission as an armor officer in the 49th Armored Division. Later while in North Carolina I served with the 30th Mechanized Infantry Brigade. My last assignment prior to retiring in 1995 as a major,was with the 18th Airborne Corps at Fort Bragg.
