UPDATE: 5-1-09: Just got back from appearing in REMEMBER & CELEBRATE: HONORING TOM JONES & HARVEY SCHMIDT, the creators of THE FANTASTICKS, the longest running musical in the history of the theatre [on May 3rd it begins it's 50th year Off-Broadway!]. I toured as El Gallo in the First Japan Tour back in 1988, directed by bookwriter/lrycist Tom Jones, who also played The Old Actor [the role he originated 50 years ago] and Harvey Scmidt was on stage at the piano, so it was a thrill and an honor to be part of this spectacular multi-media tribute at The 28th Annual William Inge Festival, in Independence, Kansas, hometown of the Pulitzer-Prize winning playwright William Inge [and his schoolmate, Vivian Vance, another old friend and mentor of mine], an event which I helped to conceive 28 years ago. I was honored to share the stage in this event with Susan Watson [the original Kim in BYE, BYE, BIRDIE, and a favorite leading lady of mine in many shows over the past decades], Rita Gardner [the original Luisa in THE FANTASTICKS], Martin Vidnovic [an El Gallo, Off-Broadway, and star of many Broadway shows including BABY and OKLAHOMA!], Kelly Sullivan [YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN], actress/author Barbara Dana [her new book "A Voice of Her Own: Becoming Emily Dickinsen" is just sensational] and the Legendary Elizabeth Wilson....Expand for more
