Warren's Story

Life I was born in Irvington, New Jersey and lived my first 13 years in Point Pleasant Beach. My dad got a job in Calif and I had to leave - I really missed all my friends and it was very difficult adjusting to Calif. I especially missed the softball games/basketball games at the High School playing on asphalt, little league (won the championship in 1957), the boardwalk (used to park cars near the merry-go-round, the owner was in the mafia). My first real job was at Carvell's where I swept the parking lot and got free ice cream. My Mom worked at the OB diner. Her best friend was a Risden (sp?) and we always got onto the beach for free. Spent almost every Saturday at the Arnold Theater. Hung out at the Candy Kitchen. Loved the fries and milk shakes at Woolworths. So sad I had to move. Although I have never forgotten those days in Point, I eventually adjusted to California and had a great four years in High School. Playing football, varsity tennis and basketball. I finally made the varsity basketball team my senior year - I think I was the last one picked by Mr. Remington, but it was still a great experience. Orientals rule!!!!! After graduating from CalHi I attended Cerritos Junior College for a year. After dropping out the last semester I decided to join the Air Force since I was about to be drafted. I spent 4 years as a Security Policeman and 19 years as a Criminal Investigator for the Air Force Office of Special Investigations. My career took me to places all over the Far East and Europe. I retired in 1988 as a Senior Master Sgt (E-8). I went back to school and completed my Master's Degree in Management and work for the Omaha Public Power District at the Fort Calhoun Nuclear Station. I met my beautiful wife in Wiesbaden, Germany. She was a civilian employee for the government and I was assigned there with the Air Force. We have been married for 28 years. She currently is the Budget Officer at Offutt AFB and is now completing her 35th year in civil service. I have six children out there (wow)! I have three from a previous marriage and three from my present marriage. All six are married. I have 21 grandchildre...Expand for more
n. My one son Will is an E-8 in the Army and just returned from serving in Iraq. He also spent a year in Afghanistan and is ready to deploy again (damn). My other children live in Louisana, Colorado, Minnesota, Utah, and Nebraska. I just recently retired again as a Security Supervisor at a nuclear power plant. My office was responsible for access requirements to the nuclear plant. These requirements include conducting background investigations, drug testing, fingerprinting, etc. Needless to say since 9/11 it was a challenge. Because of new government regulations and oversite it was by far a very stressful job. I am now in the consulting business. One of my fondest moments was attending the LA Dodgers baseball fantasy camp in Vero Beach (Dodgertown) in 2000 and 2001. As a young boy growing up in New Jersey, my Dad and I attended many games at Ebbets Field. My hero was Duke Snider. At camp Duke Snider was my manager and getting to know him and hear him share many great baseball stories was unbelievable. Also getting to know Reggie Smith, Jeff Torborg, Bill Russell, Don Zimmer, Clem Labine, Burt Hooten, Ralph Branca, Johnny Podres, Steve Yeager, Rick Monday and many of today's players was something that cannot be described in words. I have been back to Dodger Stadium on several occasions and have been in the clubhouse, sat in the dugout, and been in the press box. Being a life long Dodger fan has made going to the camp all worthwhile. It was the greatest moment of my life next to marrying my wife and seeing my children and grandchildren born. My Dad passed away on Veterans Day 2008 and I will miss him. He and I attended so many Dodger games together through the years from Ebbets Field to Dodger Stadium. We loved playing golf together where he lived in the San Diego area - may he rest in peace and continue to bleed blue. Then on April 23, 2010 my Mom passed away. She was never the same after my Dad was gone - they had been married 63 years. She is now with my Dad and in peace. Although like in all our lives there have been ups and downs. I am happier today than I have ever been and am enjoying life to the fullest.
