Wayna's Story
Happy Valentine's Day!
My husband and I.
We were both stationed in the Navy in Norfolk, Va in 1989.I a Dental Tech. and he a Aviation Warfare Airman. I would walk along the beach on the base when I was lonely and sad. I would watch the helicopters fly above. I would think my prince charming is just above and one day I'm going to meet him. Living in the barracks I would do anything to get away after a week of military life. I was invited to a co-workers party at her home and he to the same party by a co-worker. This party was where I saw this handsome man that I had assisted in his dental care but was to afraid to talk to more than a professional level. He walked up and said his name and told me he had been watching me on the base and that I was the character of woman that was worth really getting to know. We neither one were big partiers and it was not our scene. We left the party that night to have coffee at Denny's. It was that night that I realized God had meant for us to be together.
We had went to 1st grade in Springfield, Missouri together. We had been living in the same apartment complex and had the same childhood dogs named Chippy. We talked the night away laughing, and sharing all the things we had in common. He shook my hand and was such a gentleman when we finally decided we needed to go home. This impressed me so much.I called my mother that night and said I had met the man that I would marry. He waited two long weeks to call and ask me out on a date. Our first date was Valentines Night. He brought me flowers and we went to a nice Mexican restaurant. He was so nervous he ke...Expand for more
pt dropping food in his lap. He gave me a kiss on the cheek and again I was so impressed that he was such a gentleman. We dated for a year. He was to leave for Desert Shield and we had grown so in love and lust. I really wanted to be his wife. He proposed to me after getting permission from my father and on bent knee. He told me that he had loved me and knew I would be his wife that night at Denny's too. He put a ring on my finger that was two months pay for him and told me to please wait for him to get back from the war. He said he loved me. He then drove me to the airport. I went home for Christmas crying with a ring on my finger and thinking about the tears we shed in fear of the on known. He was leaving for the war before I would get back to the base. Desert Shield turned into Desert Storm lots of letters and lonely times. We remained strong and on August 31, 1991 in Springdale, Ark where I was born. His family from Miami ,where he was raised and born, came to Ark. sharing a very traditional wedding. Shortly after we traveled to Springfield, Mo to see where we both had lived for a short time in both of our lives and where God had decide that two children were going to connect again some day. Our teacher was still at the school and had a year book that we both were pictured in. The Cherry street appts were right there across from the school, and my parents said it had not changed much. We have been married 17 years now and have two beautiful children. God has led our marriage and continues to help us keep a strong bond to raise our children in! Love Always , Ariel and Wayna Arenado
