Wayne's Story

Life After leaving Runnymede, I completed a BSc. ('71) at York and then a BEd at U of T('72). I started a Science teaching career in 1972 in south Oshawa. I married Sylvia in 1978 followed by two daughters; Julia ('80) and Jennifer ('83). We built a house near Uxbridge in 1980 and still reside there. I progressed through teaching to become a Guidance counsellor, environmental/horticultural and family studies teacher. I was Science department head in Pickering during the "Harris" years and retired in 2003. Sylvia and I will celebrate our 28th anniversary in March '06. Julia works in Elmira in her specialty of Marine and Freshwater Biology while Jennifer completes U of T this spring in Architecture/Fine Arts. My retirement is ...Expand for more
busy with some employment as well as hobbies and interests in orchids, horticulture, canoeing and hiking, plus environmental causes. Life is slow enough now that I can connect with people of the past that I have lost contact with. Look forward to hearing from you and Uxbridge is close to Toronto for visiting. In 2010, I moved to Ajax, and work for the John Howard Society of Durham Region in adult Literacy. In 2013, I cycled from Los Angeles to New York City, 6100 km, on a charity ride. Plans are forming to cycle from Vancouver to Halifax, in 2017. I finally retired from my Adult Literacy Instructor position in March 2017, and did cycle from Vancouver to Halifax, 7200 km in 56 days, raising over $13,000 for anti-poverty programs.
