Wayne's Story

In the years since I graduated from St. Eulalia I've worked as a stage and film actor (including two of John Hughes' films), rock musician, printer's assistant, draftsman, industrial engineer, mechanical engineer, assistant head cashier, television assembler, veterinary assistant, auto parts counter clerk, copywriter, forklift driver, proofreader, warehouse helper, embassy officer, land planning technician, cafeteria attendant, graphic designer, assistant recording engineer, art director, creative director, hand model, marketing manager, publicity manager, advertising manager, children's book illustrator and owner/operator of a new boat dealership. After 45 years it became obvious to me that I couldn't hold a job, so I decided to be a writer. I've ghostwritten two books and my work has appeared in Tooling & Production, The Herald, The Chicago Tribune, Rivulets and online in Combat and The Journals of Fathe...Expand for more
r Nick Thomas. I'm self-employed (no surprise) as a book designer and I'm currently working on a book about Hollywood for Michele Travolta (John's sister-in-law). I've been married for 29 years (this time) and we adopted two special needs Korean children (now 20 and 22). We have one granddaughter. Some of you may remember my sister Beverly. She's been in the circus business for more than 30 years, including 11 years in England and Ireland, and she made three appearances on Bozo's Circus doing aerial ballet. Beverly and her husband Jim (he was a magician and ringmaster) also had a radio show in Ireland for a couple of years. In 2008, they purchased the Kelly-Miller Circus with John Ringling III, a third generation member of the Ringling circus family. The circus puts on shows throughout the central part of the country. In August and September, 2010, they'll be in the Chicago area including a stop in Aurora.

The Exports
Here's a scary granddaughter scarecrow for a limited Halloween celebration.
Last year about this time we were celebrating a cheer leading award. How things have changed.
Here we are, the 1967 version of the Exports, getting ready for a wild and crazy concert in Lockport, Illinois, coming up on Sept 2. You can tell how excited we all are.
Since my birthday was yesterday, I thought I'd post this pic from many, many yesterday birthdays. I was in the Army in Seoul, Korea and It was my 25th. My Korean friends gave me a surprise party. I asked what was written on
Onward to high school and the cheer team for Avalynn.
At this time 50 years ago, I was in Korea attending a couple's engagement party with my friends Sam and Kenn, civilian government employees. I'm on the left, by the way.
Grandma Pat and mothers passing out finished Christmas projects.
The Christmas cookie decorator.
Avy received this kindergarten award. She was quite happy and we were quite proud of her. The three R's are Respect, Responsibility and Right Attitude.
Looking concerned, in a New York courtroom in "Making a Case for Murder" with Daniel J. Travanti.
Here is my long-awaited (only by me) novel going to press (if there are no major malfunctions). It will be out in November, available from Amazon and anyplace else where I can coerce someone into carrying it. The title is T
Here I am today at Anderson's Bookshop in Naperville with my friend, Dick Locher. Dick has been the creator of Dick Tracy since 1983 and is a Pulitzer Prize winner for his Chicago Tribune editorial cartoons. I'm helping him
Avalynn and friend (Harry) having a nap.
Speaking of the military, I ran across this on Pinterest.
On our visit to the Lochers today, Dick is showing Avalynn how to draw his iconic Dick Tracy character. She gave him and Mary a couple of her own drawings.
My granddaughter will probably kill me, but I had to post this Halloween picture of her as a famous Mexican artist. Any guesses?
Here's another photo at Anderson's with Jo and her Naperville book.
And yet another. Sitting in the groom's (John Candy) side of church, waiting for the wedding ceremony in "Only the Lonely."
Avalynn, Toto and ruby slippers ready to hit the trick-or-treat trail.
This was my view the last 4th of July Parade (2013) in Aurora. I was in a "Huey" helicopter that had flown in Vietnam. I felt just like Greg Kinnear in "We Were Soldiers." As you can see, the turnout was great. I hope this
