Life After graduation from MTSU, several months working for an insurance company that supposedly wanted someone for their public relations department found me calling on fixed income little old ladies telling them they needed to buy more insurance. An opportunity to work as a promoter and general manager of a NASCAR sanctioned race track found me moving the wife and son to Maryland. Soon the wife and son went back to Tennessee and I spent a year trying to make a severely-restricted race track work. After the track closed at the end of the season, I headed to Tennessee to be sports editor of a five-day-a-week newspaper near Knoxville. Nine months later I got a call to do the same at a daily paper in Middle Tennessee. Soon, I was transferred to a twice-weekly paper in another town to be the paper's assistant editor. Shortly after that transfer, the editor left and I became the editor until early 1982 when I returned to auto racing as editor of an auto racing newspaper near Charlotte, NC.
